Malls

edit

Praveen,

Welcome to Wikipedia again. Wiki markup and formatting is a bit strange at first and you will get adjusted to it no time. The coimbatore article has been lonely for the past couple of years. I have been improving sections one by one, but haven't gotten aroudn to Economy, Geography, Sports/Recreation and Environment sections so far. The other sections are mostly in working order and sourced.

Coming to the point, can we term large shopping complexes as malls? (And BTW lakshmi complex and cheran towers opened in the 80s if not earlier.)--Sodabottle (talk) 04:36, 15 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Oh when you edit pages, leave a small edit summary describing your changes (edit summary box appears below the main edit box). It helps for people who are watching the page what sort of changes are being made to the article--Sodabottle (talk) 04:53, 15 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
I've been watching this article & can see you have been doing a good job, please continue the good effort! I too have been editing few things at times as an anonymous editor, but decided to use my own login from now on.
Sure dude, thanks for pointing it out, I'll fill in the summary sections from now on!
About the shopping complexes, I think the terms shopping complex, shopping mall, shopping centre all mean the same. But I've to agree I wasn't sure of the timing (1990/1980s?), thanks for clearing it... also i;m not sure if shopping malls fit in the "sports and recreation" section at all. perhaps we can add a new subsection under Economy for realestate & retail? any suggestions? --Praveen chandar (talk) 09:25, 15 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
I believe in indian context malls definitely come under "recreation" :-). They can be mentioned in the economy section as well no problem with having the same thing present twice in different perspectives. I think if the section gets bigger, we might eventually have to move the economy section to a new "Economy of coimbatore" article and mention a summary here.
And regarding moving the "schools in coimbatore" to "educational institutions in coimbatore", i have moved it. (any particular article can be moved through the top level menu "move")--Sodabottle (talk) 10:27, 15 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
okay let malls be under recreation for now :-)! thanks for letting me know of the "move" option --Praveen chandar (talk) 10:36, 15 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Education

edit

hi, please go through the changes i made to the education section. Let me know if I got carried away or if it sounds a bit brash. --Praveen chandar (talk) 10:08, 15 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

They are perfectly fine. I was initially hesitant about adding the word "reputed" then thought if TNAU isnt reputed what else is :-)--Sodabottle (talk) 10:20, 15 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
thanks sodabottle, thats wat i was wondering too, but then thought TNAU and to an extent BU can definitely be called reputed :)!--Praveen chandar (talk) 10:33, 15 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

GDP in 2005

edit

Praveen, The GDP of CBE district in 2005 is inclusive of the current Tirupur district. With Tirupur and its export industry now gone and in the absence of numbers after Tirupur's seperation, i believe it is not correct to put such a claim in the lead. --Sodabottle (talk) 12:55, 24 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

hmm, I knew it was going to be controversial claim :) but that is the lastest and the only reference i could get hold of, so guess i felt i was just stating the facts that are at hand. anyways I agree with you, thanks for correcting it. --Praveen chandar (talk) 08:53, 25 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

images

edit

Praveen,

You can't upload others' images as "own work" in commons. It is copyright violation and is considered disruptive in wikipedia. And moreover this image you uploaded is not cbe north flyover. It is chennai adyar fly over. Only images you have personally photographed can be tagged as "own work". I have tagged them for deletion in commons --Sodabottle (talk) 16:03, 15 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for correcting Sodabottle. I'll make sure images go in the correct catagory from now on. --Praveen chandar (talk) 18:12, 15 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

And you cannot upload any image you find in the internet. They will have to be licensed compatible to wikipedia. (either GFDL or CC BY SA 3.0). Most of the images that we find in the net are licenced and copyrighted and thus ineligible for uploading here. If you find a suitable image, let me know and i will take a look and see if they can be uploaded here.--Sodabottle (talk) 18:28, 15 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
Sure Sodabottle, thanks for coming forward to help. it was my mistake and irresponsible. I'll check with you, or will read through the license options before uploading my next image--Praveen chandar (talk) 18:33, 15 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
