Street furniture

edit

Your view seems to take rather a too large viewpoint IMHO. My interests stem from my postal history interest, so post boxes, milestone and other related items interest me. I lived in Ireland and photographed many old milestones and post boxes but in every city and country there are many examples of these alone, much less the other things like drinking troughs, manholes of all sorts, etc. Just the other day I was walking down a street in a small French village looking at the cast-iron gas shut off valve covers and there alone were about a dozen different ones. You can never even consider you are even covering but a small fraction, so you are probably best to concentrate on one city and or one item. The Wikimedia commons has many categories of such items you can review, such as c:Category:Street signs, c:Category:Milestones, etc. Many street furniture items were made of cast iron and I remember having to take photographs in a foundry in Dublin there they mades such items. This publisher has some inexpensive booklets about some of these topics but mainly British-centric, though you will have to search through their vast catalogue. I don't think I can offer you any more advise. Good luck. ww2censor (talk)
