But this is not the quotation, only your interpretation. I am sure that the author meant to convey what is written, which is that Segovia encouraged his students to develop said resources by putting his own knowledge, etc. at the students' disposal. I think you are doing a bit too much interpretation, as the quote is quite clear on its own. Let the speaker speak, not the editor...
