I reverted your edits because it sounded more liking ranting against the kunbi community. All that the original text wanted to convey to the reader was " All Marathi people were called Maratha or Marathe (including the brahmins) until 100 years ago".

Even Lokmanya Tilak's newspaper was called "Maratha". It was really a combination of Shahu Maharaj's encouragement to Kunbis and the brahmins using the term "Maharashtrian brahmin " or Dakshini brahmin which led to a narrower definition of Maratha.

Bye the way, heros of Marathi samrajya included all castes including kokanstha brahmin (Bajirao), Moropant Pingale (deshastha brahmin), Bajiprabhu Deshpande (Chandraseni Kayastha prabhu or CKP)
