Stop it

edit

Wikipedia is not a vehicle for promoting the Jain Foundation. Just stop it.

Hi Jytdog, the family relationship given on this page is incorrect - it needs to be changed from uncle to cousin.

pasting response here, that was left on my talk page in this diff Jytdog (talk) 23:09, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hi Jytdog, the family relationship given on the Plavi Mittal page is incorrect - it needs to be changed from uncle to cousin. [P.S. I am not the person who has been adding subjective and glorifying statements; I agree with you that these need to stop. Only the previous edits from 171.66.213.131 were mine.] Northupnorth (talk) 23:00, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your reply. 2 questions:
1) What other accounts have you used in Wikipedia?
2) What is your connection with a) the foundation; b) the Jain family; and c) the "person who has been adding subjective and glorifying statements"?
Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 23:10, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
(1) I've never had any other wikipedia account, though I've made a few edits from 171.66.213.131. (2) I created the original Jain Foundation and Dysferlinopathy pages many years ago. I'm no longer affiliated with the Jain Foundation, though I do still work in the field. From the username I believe the person in question is a friend of the subject, though I don't know for sure. Thanks for answering. So when you started editing this stuff back in 2010 you were affiliated with the Jain Foundation but you no longer are. Please do avoid promoting the Jain Foundation as you go forward. We do love experts here but not when they use their editing privileges for promotion - in terms of the integrity of Wikipedia there is no difference between a Pfizer employee spamming content promotional of itself, someone spamming promotional content about a nonprofit, or a vegetarian writing about how evil meat is. All of that stuff harms the integrity of articles. Jytdog (talk) 23:29, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
I fully agree and have tried to only add content with external references. Thanks for editing the family relationship (although it is actually her cousin's son, I know it does say 'nephew' in the third-party source using a loose definition of the term). Northupnorth (talk) 23:39, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
May I also ask why you removed the photo? It is from a third-party source (FasterCures, from their Partnering for Cures meeting). Northupnorth (talk) 23:47, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia is not a vehicle for promotion. You all should be ashamed of yourselves for abusing Wikipedia as you have. If I write here again it will be to inform you I am seeking a topic ban for you and everyone else associated with this foundation. Jytdog (talk) 03:46, 7 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
I think you may be mistaking me for someone else. I have not done any self-promotion. I work in this field and have knowledge of the topic. I have only added referenced material. Northupnorth (talk) 04:06, 7 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
This -- Special:Contributions/Northupnorth -- is what you have actually done in WP. Those edits contain unsourced or badly sourced content about the foundation or its work. Your account is what we call a single purpose account - you are WP:NOTHERE to build an encyclopedia - you are here to promote this foundation and its work. That really was my last reply here. As I said above, next time I write here it will be to provide you notice that I am seeking to topic ban the lot of you. That will only be necessary if you continue to abuse Wikipedia. I do hope you apply your expertise elsewhere in Wikipedia. Jytdog (talk) 04:32, 7 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
No need to reply, but I assume you are referring to my first edit creating the Jain Foundation page back in 2010, when I was inexperienced with Wikipedia policies (although it included references, most were not to third-party sources). That was my only edit that could be considered 'badly sourced' content. I hope that adding third-party referenced material, as I have been attempting, does contribute to the goal of building an accurate and informative encyclopedia. I appreciate that this is also your goal and fully support your edits as well. Northupnorth (talk) 05:03, 7 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Jain Foundation

edit

Hello Northupnorth,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Jain Foundation for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly indicate why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!
