Republic of Ireland

Please stop changing the links in the Republic of Ireland article. We appreciate that the actual name of the country is Ireland, and this is acknowledged, but your changing of those links is causing them to link to the incorrect pages. The pages you're changing the links to are actually disambiguation pages that provide links to the 2 different sets of articles on Ireland, those of Northern Ireland and those of the Republic of Ireland/Ireland (state). Your edits are in good faith but are causing harm to the page. The names of those articles are chosen for reasons of ambiguity that is caused by Ireland in certain contexts. You miss the point completely. There is nowhere on earth called the Republic of Ireland. The name of the country is Éire or in the english language Ireland. The term Republic of Ireland is a description, not a name, and is not recognised by the European Union or United Nations. So, any references to a country called Republic of Ireland is totally incorrect and if this causes misdirection then the other elements need also to be changed. Ireland is our legal name as enshrined in our Constitution.

Please read WP:IMOS. Wikipedia is not new to this controversy and it has been discussed extensively. However the article names are Politics of the Republic of Ireland etc, not Politics of Ireland as that is a reference to the island not the state. Wikipedia uses Republic of Ireland when there is cause for confusion over the word Ireland, and when there may be confusion over island and state uses the official description of the country for the state, that is Republic of Ireland. These agreements have been arrived at over many years of discussions involving all communities. Canterbury Tail talk 23:10, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
