About my Disambiguation reasons

edit

Thank you, but Deckiller and SnowFire have told me already, and it's been left alone. My misunderstanding was that I didn't know there even was a Final Fantasy Wikia. I know now. But, thanks again. If you know any helpful links dealing with HTML, sendy my way. Thankupo. ;)

Hi

edit

Heya, you are doing an excellent job with getting the initial merging done. By the way, you might want to move your projects to a /sandbox so that your talkpage only has comments on it. — Deckiller 00:45, 7 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm trying to be very proactive and bold in my editing, which as far as I can tell WP is very supportive of. Unfortunately that also means I'm learning as I go. I'm not yet sure about how to set up sandboxes quite yet, but I will research it and utilize it the next time I do a merge like this. Any time you feel you have a tidbit of advice that you feel I may be unaware of, feel free to let me know as I'm always receptive to help and constructive criticism. Thanks for your friendly support. --Daedalus 16:45, 7 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Talk page Help

Hey Daedalus, I'm Eileen (the one that helped settle the dispute about Vivi). Anyway, I read that you need some help with talk pages and sandboxes so I found you two links. Hope this helps. Wikipedia:User page#How do I create a user subpage? and m:Help:Talk page. Enjoy. -Eileen-

GameFAQs

edit

There is a Wikipedia poll on GameFAQs, and then I went into the forum to bash people who criticized Wikipedia. I then realized how immature young gamers are. — Deckiller 15:49, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Try as I might, I can't get my account authorized to view the Message Board for whatever mysterious reasons. But I certainly have seen a lot of immaturity in the area of Wikipedia and Webcomics, so I can easily imagine your frustration. ;) --Daedalus 23:49, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi; something I've been meaning to do on pages like Final Fantasy magic is to take all those non-references and place them with the rest of the prose; they don't qualify as references, because they don't cite an image or script (although describing the image is pretty much common sense). — Deckiller 20:51, 22 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Refs

edit

Hi; when sourcing items, can you make sure the refs go outside the puncutation, so it looks like this: Final Fantasy VII,[1]. That is usually the preferred style. — Deckiller 15:19, 24 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

No problem. How do I handle references that are in the middle of a list, before the comma? --Daedalus 15:52, 24 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Right after the comma, and then a space before the next item in the list. — Deckiller 12:51, 25 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

WPFF main page and goals

Hey; I've been a little busy over at the main page and the talkpage. What do you think? — Deckiller 23:15, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi

edit

Hi. How is everything going? We have two pretty big FA pushes going on right now at Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XII; if you've played these games, your input would be greatly appreciated. Also, thanks for keeping a close eye on the Final Fantasy gameplay subarticles. I think Kariteh and Sjones are quite enthusiastic, but it's good to be a challenger on both sides of the argument to make sure policy is upholded. — Deckiller 19:25, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your kind words. I have enormous respect for you as an editor, and it means a lot to me. Kariteh and I are often at odds with each other philosophically, though lately we've agreed on many things, my biggest concern is that I may come on too strongly when making my cases, and come off as being uncivil. Your comments imply this isn't so (at least, not quite as much as I thought). As far as FFXII and FFXI, no I haven't played them yet. So I'm not sure how much help I could be with the GA push, but I suppose taking a peak won't hurt. --—ΔαίδαλοςΣ 20:13, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

User warning messages

User warning messages should be added to the user talk page. You added a warning to the user page of User:Venizuela. I moved it to the talk page. wrp103 (Bill Pringle) 06:39, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about that, I'm obviously still new to many things. Thank you for letting me know. --—ΔαίδαλοςΣ 14:53, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Characters of Final Fantasy VIII

edit

Hi; if possible, could you give some feedback to the article on the peer review? Thanks. — Deckiller 00:47, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just thought you should know that it's up for FAC. Also, we're starting a sandbox at User:Deckiller/World of Final Fantasy VIII to try and build off of the Spira (Final Fantasy X) style. If you're a fan of the game, your help would be appreciated. — Deckiller 00:54, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Characters of Final Fantasy IX

edit

Hey; want to try and bang out all those merges by the end of the night? — Deckiller 00:17, 23 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Done. They still need some copy-editing, and Garnet's section has holes in it that need to be filled, but the biggest problem is that the articles need sourcing. --—ΔαίδαλοςΣΣ 04:53, 23 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, definitely. I'll try to give a hand once the XII and Characters of VIII articles make FA. — Deckiller 04:58, 23 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

edit

The only beef I have is a right to post my thoughts and nobody can stop me from doing that. I don't have anything against you or MooMoo. Sorry for any trouble. JoshuaMD 10:18 26 March 2007 (GMT)

You can post whatever thoughts you'd like, you have that freedom. But there are proper places. The discussion page of an article is not the proper place for expressing such things. This page, this is the proper place. The discussion page should be limited to only discussion about improving the article. --—ΔαίδαλοςΣΣ 14:20, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sig and Sandbox

edit

How do you design your signature to be that way? And how do you make sandbox pages like the final fantasy themes one? Thanks.KrytenKoro 08:42, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

The signature took quite a bit of experimenting, and is based off of Anþony's old signature (  Anþony  talk ). As it turns out, it's simpler than it looks. It starts with two short dashes, and an "M-space dash" (a dash the length of an "M" character). For the name, start with Δαίδαλος as a standard wikilink in bold. Just around the Δαίδαλος put a "span style" with the syntax: <span style="border: 2px solid Black; background-color: Red; color: Black">(the text you want to modify)</span>. Do something similar with the other two links, but instead link it to your talk page and contributions. Just put these wikilinks together with no spaces between them to make them look like they are one object.
--— + Δαίδαλος + Σ + Σ = --—ΔαίδαλοςΣΣ
After you painstakingly perfect the way you want your signature to look, copy the whole code with ctrl-c and go into your preferences. Under "User Profile" paste with ctrl-v the code into the "signature" box and make sure you check the "Raw Signature" checkbox. Next time you type ~~~~ or use the signature button it will paste the code and display the nifty new design. Other examples of creative signatures include >Radiant<, -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs), ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs), Wikizilla (Signme!)Talk, etc... Be creative!!
As far as user subpages go, let me direct you to Wikipedia:User pages#How do I create a user subpage?. --—ΔαίδαλοςΣΣ 15:11, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Draconic

edit

Since I don't want to get into a revert war, I'll discuss it here.

For why it can't be mammalian - because mammals with wings don't have the joint spike like that. For demonic - maybe, but in almost all cases where demons have wings, they are draconic, since dragons and demons were once equated. For why it's draconic - part of the above, and because nothing that does not have dragon wings (including demons) has that spike, and because it is much more specific than "demonic".

While I agree that demonic would work better (non-feathered doesn't do it justice), demons don't necessarily have wings, and it is actually uncommon for them too. If you can get some sort of consensus that everyone understands what you mean (for example, some famous demons have peacock wings, not draconic ones), then by all means, put demonic in. I'm just worried that it's not technically correct.

But it's definitely not batwings.KrytenKoro 05:36, 8 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

First off, it's a fantasy game. Since there isn't enough level of detail to determine whether it is skinned or scaled, then we simply don't know. Just because it's mammalian doesn't mean it has to be a bat's wing, this is a work of fantasy after all. But again, since we can't tell whether it has scales or not it could just as easily be a reptilian wing. But if it is a reptilian wing, what makes it draconic and not reptilian in general? A dragon is a VERY specific type of wing, and we simply don't have anything to suggest a dragon. Yes, Dragons and Demons were once equated with each other (and still are), but only by Judeo-christian mythology. No other mythology refers to devils and demons as dragons. Japanese demons are better approximated as Ogres and Goblins, for one example. It is fair to say that the fantasy version of a dragon IS NOT based of off the judeo-christian, so saying draconic for a demon's wing in a fantasy game is incorrect. It is better to say a demon's wing, really (by the way, Demon wings may not be common in mythology but they are VERY common in fantasy). Sephiroth is an angel symbolically, and as fans we know that Cloud therefore is a demon symbolically to create a contrast to Sephiroth. But also consider that cloud only had the wing in Kingdom Hearts, also consider that Cloud's character design in KH was a combination of Cloud and Vincent. He had Vincent's shawl, he had Vincent's Claw, etc. Also consider that Vincent is designed after a vampire (sleeps in a coffin, flys, can transform into a monster, dark demonic motif, seemingly immortal, etc.) So being based off of a vampire Cloud's wing can easily be argued to be a bat's wing as it is easily argued to be a vampire's wing. "The spike on the wing looks like a dragon's wing" just isn't enough to go on, especially in an encyclopedia. See, we have every reason to believe that it is a bat's wing (the spike could just be a stylization) as he is a combination of Cloud and Vincent, and we have every reason to believe that it could be a demon's wing as Cloud is the antithesis to Sephiroth, but what is there to possibly identify it as a dragon's? Nothing, there is nothing to suggest that Cloud has anything to do with a dragon, except a spike that you think looks draconic. Whatever the wing may be, we don't know for sure without a source. I agree that "non-feathered" just doesn't do it justice, but until we have a source we cannot say reptilian, we cannot say mammalian, and we most certainly cannot say anything so specific as draconic. "Non-feathered" is about all that we can say without a source.
And for the record, that spike is not just draconic. Diabolos in FFVIII has that wing spike as well, and he's not a dragon. I've also seen that wing spike in other fantasy outside of FF on vampires, succubi, other demons, gargoyles, imps, etc. I've also seen a lot of dragons without that wing spike. So saying that the wing spike is uniquely draconic, is also incorrect. --—ΔαίδαλοςΣΣ 15:54, 8 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello, NicholaiDaedalus. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:FFX Chocobo.jpg) was found at the following location: User:NicholaiDaedalus/Chocobo. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Your signature

edit

Yes, you've jogged my memory. I did want to tackle you about this before but I had other things on my mind. Your signature looks like this on the page:

Now the effect of that on a discussion page is to distract the eye when a reader is trying to follow the discussion.

And as if that wasn't distracting enough this is what one has to content with in the edit box:

 • -—<span style="border: 2px solid Black; background-color: Red; color: Black">Δαίδαλος</span><span style="border: 2px solid Black; background-color: Black; color: Red;">Σ</span><span style="border: 2px solid Black; background-color: Black; color: Red;">Σ</span>

In the edit box, this is tagged to every single comment you make, no matter how brief. This makes it difficult for a person replying to a discussion in which you have participated to locate the comments, amid the sea of extraneous characters and formatting.

And because you render only part of your username, and that in the Greek alphabet which not all of us know, this also has the effect of completely obscuring your username.

So there are three problems there. Would you consider addressing them by changing your signature to something more acceptable? I normally refactor to remove unnecessary and intrusive formatting when I'm involved in a discussion, but I can't be everywhere and I don't intend to make a hobby out of it, so it's really up to you to try to stop the discussion pages turning into something resembling a toilet wall. --Tony Sidaway 17:45, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

 1. It's a matter of individuality and identification. It's personal preference that I am known by the name Δαίδαλος, however that is almost impossible to type in a login without being cumbersome, therefore my reluctant choice is to use english characters for my login, but my identity is Δαίδαλος and that is how I wish to be known. People who wish to type Daedalus or Daidalos instead are more than welcome to if it's easier for them, but that is not my prefered alias, and so I will not change my signature to match my username. As far as I'm concerned, my username is as closely matched to my chosen identity as possible, not the other way around.
 2. So it can be a little confusing in edit boxes. I was aware of the drawbacks when I chose to write my signature's code, and I chose to individualize myself anyway. Pointing them out now will not further convince me of changing it. Considering how many modified signatures there are out there, I don't see that you have any wide-ranging consensus and as far as I know you are the only person who has expressed a problem with this.
 3. The page that you have pointed to about refactoring is not a policy and it is not a guideline. It is a how-to. It has no weight/enforcement whatsoever and respecting an individuals right to individuality and personal identity should supercede any how-to guide. You want to cite essays, how about don't be a WP:DICK?
If you change my signature on your talk page, then that's fine, I don't care much about that. But if you change my signature in a discussion, I will consider it vandalism. --—NicholaiDaedalus 18:01, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for copying a duplicate of your reply above to my talk page. I've replied there and suggest that we keep discussion in one place. --Tony Sidaway 18:09, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
The reason for that was that some people may encounter this issue on my talk page, and think it unresolved or unresponded to, and I wasn't certain that you had my talk page on your watchlist, there was no intention to fracture the discussion, and I apologize for the redundancy. --—ΔαίδαλοςΣΣ 18:13, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I reverted your fix of your signature on the RfC due to side effects. Please be more careful not to cause that in the future, however it is that you caused that this time. --Kizor 20:31, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's not vandalism

edit

It's not vandalism for someone to change your sig, so it's best not to call it such. Also, as near as I can tell, Tony actively enjoys having people complain at him for being a dick. So, it's unlikely for your complains to have the effect you're hoping for. I'd just drop it if I were you. Friday (talk) 18:45, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I do feel that it is vandalism as it alters how I wish to express myself, though I can understand if that's not a uniform opinion. However, you may be right about Tony, this is my first encounter with him, so I will take your advice and just drop the argument. --—ΔαίδαλοςΣΣ 18:47, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Seems reasonable. Also, just FYI- the whole "I'm expressing myself" argument is unlikely to get you very far. Since Wikipedia is an encyclopedia rather than a social networking site, self-expression is generally about #438 on people's lists of what's important, just below making sure that every minor character from any unpopular TV show has his own article. Friday (talk) 18:50, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I can't help but notice that you haven't actually dropped the argument. It's often a good idea to make your point and then back off. Friday (talk) 20:41, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've dropped my argument with Tony, my responses were directed at others' responses, but I certainly see your point. --—ΔαίδαλοςΣ 20:42, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
