Speedy deletion nomination of Stefan Bernhard

edit

A tag has been placed on Stefan Bernhard requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. ttonyb1 (talk) 23:29, 13 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

advice

edit

As reviewing administrator, I declined to delete because saying someone is an assistant professor at a research university is at least a claim to some possible importance. It is, however, not generally enough notability to pass WP:AFD. The standard is at WP:PROF. Very few assistant professors even at places like Princeton turn out to make it unless some of their papers are extremely important -- and there is no indication of this. It is rare that someone who is still an assistant professor will have achieved enough professional recognition to meet WP:PROF. An assistant professor, not having tenure, is quite specifically someone not yet considered by the profession as notable, just as having the potential that they might someday become notable in the future. Someone whose notability arises from being involved in a tenure case is normally only noteworthy because of it when for some reason it gets national attention, at least in the Chronicle for Higher Education or professional magazines. What you need to do to show notability here is to find his published papers and get their citation figures, and add this to the article. (at least the top 4 or 5 of them). We tend to measure importance of the work by the citations. I advise you to do this very quickly, before the article gets nominated for deletion by a regular deletion process. Good luck with it.
