Image copyright problem with Image:NCA-PKS Live Dive program - Scott Taylor photo for NC Aquariums.jpg edit

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:NCA-PKS Live Dive program - Scott Taylor photo for NC Aquariums.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 17:35, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

  Please do not add copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. -- Whpq (talk) 14:27, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

  If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors;
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
    and you must always:
  4. avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, verifiability, and autobiography.

{{helpme}}I see that the content I submitted for the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores has been greatly edited for the reasons above. However, I do not understand them completely and need a bit of help. I was in the process of uploading photos under a creative commons license when these problems were noted. However, all photos I'm uploading are owned by the NC Aquarium. Additionally, we styled our listing much like our sister Aquarium--the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. Their page hasn't been slashed or challenged, so why ours? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Carolina_Aquarium_at_Fort_Fisher We are a state-run non-profit educational facility, so how we are considered "spam" I do not know. Please advise us how we can place our listing on Wikipedia much like other aquariums and keep it from being deleted. Thank you.NC Aquarium PKS (talk) 14:38, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

{{helpme}}One more thing....this was our first draft of our listing. If it gets cut immediately, how can we ever improve it or "wikify" it? I don't see a way to save a draft before posting and I'm learning as I go.NC Aquarium PKS (talk) 14:41, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

The "slashing" of the page is due to copyright issues. Wikipedia cannot verify that you have the authority to release copyrighted content under a GFDL license. If the aquarium does with to donate copyrighted material, there is a procedure for donating copyrighted material. Please note that once you have donated the material, all editor are free to edit and alter the donated material. But before you do any of that, I would also point out that press releases copied verbatim don't make for good encyclopedia articles.

The removal of the image is due to being non-free content.

Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 14:49, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • You can start a user page sub page at User:NC Aquarium PKS/sandbox to store your draft while you are working on it. It is obvious by your user name that there is a conflict of interest here. What you might want to do is put the article on the draft page and then have another editor look at it before posting. Cheers GtstrickyTalk or C 15:15, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I would be happy to move the article to your sandbox and look at it before you post it. Just let me know on my Talk Page. --From-cary (talk) 16:07, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: Moving article to sandbox edit

The deletion tag has been removed from the article so I think it should be okay now. They just didn't want it to sound like you were advertising for the aquarium. If you still want to make major changes to it I can move it to your sandbox and help you out. Just let me know on your talk page or on mine, I have bookmarked them both. I will be off and on Wikipedia so I might not be able to respond right away, but I will gladly respond when I get a chance :) --From-cary (talk) 19:41, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Just for the record, the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores article has never been tagged for deletion. -- Whpq (talk) 21:28, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

This is true. I got it mixed up with several others I have seen tagged today. But I am still willing to help if anyone wants it. Just drop me a line. --From-cary (talk) 22:01, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
