About Yakuza film
editYou mentioned in the Talk that you have Shrader's "novelization." I'm going to draw on this film for a novel I am writing. I was a bit unhappy with what the reviewers said about the film. I feel that they didn't really understand or care about the "honor" thinking of the Japanese, and then dismissed the film as "exploitation", whereas I think it was explaining something subtle. It makes me think that I will get the same (mistaken) reaction to my novel, in the unlikely event that anybody ever reads it. People are too quick to claim exploitation, when it is just a matter of cross-cultural sympathy. I was wondering whether Shrader did a better job of it in his original script, and whatever he might have done in a 'novelization.' Is that something that you could share with me? - I don't really know how to "share" this with you. I suggest you pick up a used copy somewhere. -- David Spalding (☎ ✉ ✍) 17:54, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
