Hi! Welcome to Wikipedia!

You left a message on my talk page a couple weeks ago requesting me to help you as an online ambassador. I apologize for not responding earlier. It looks like my time commitments at work are greater than I expected and so I've removed my name from the list of possible mentors, I encourage you to contact one of the others. I wish you the best with your editing! --Madeleine 17:01, 12 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yo, Mrc78, I notice you are without a mentor following Madeleine's withdrawal from the program. If you would like some help navigating the intricacies of Wikipedia, I would be more than happy to help; just leave a note on my talkpage. Regards, Skomorokh 23:36, 14 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Arab immigration to the United States

edit

Yes, I would be happy to help you with your article. I don't know anything about your topic, but I will help where I can. Unless the matter is confidential, it is usually better to leave a message on the user's talk page rather than emailing other users. Email doesn't have the same capabilities as discussion things on-wiki, like wikilinks. Also, I only check my email every few days and I use Wikipedia every day. --Geniac (talk) 01:22, 25 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I'll look at your article tomorrow and reply here with some pointers for making it more Wikipeda-style. :) --Geniac (talk) 03:11, 29 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Comments on your sandbox article

Overall, you have lots of good information that is obviously and directly relevant to your topic. Your four main sections have large blocks of text that should be split up into two or three paragraphs each. I noticed some problematic words and phrases. Here are some from the Introduction section:

  • "In fact", "that being said", "as a matter of fact", "what is more", and "these figures and realities aside". Please see WP:NOTESSAY and Wikipedia:Writing better articles#Information style and tone. These types phrases should be avoided because they are essay-like. Wikipedia articles should be written in a tone that is formal, impersonal, and dispassionate.
  • "to this day", "currently" and "today". Please see WP:RELTIME and WP:ASOF. Prefer specific statements of time to general ones.
  • "due to undoubted prejudices of the American immigration policy". Please see WP:WEASEL. Undoubted by whom?
  • "Arab Christians are typically better educated and wealthier than Muslim Arabs". This type of claim definetly needs a ref. Also, the word order is inconsistent between "Arab Christians" and "Muslim Arabs."
  • "what can be described as". Can this phrase be removed entirely with no effect on the sentence?

Not knowing anything about the topic beforehand, I was pleasantly surprised. It is more interesting than I thought and I learned some things. Your article appears well-organized and it mentions lots of important factors in immigration. I'll look over the rest and give you some more pointers. --Geniac (talk) 01:56, 30 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
