Society of Malawi

The Society of Malawi was established in 1946 (as the Nyasaland Society).The aims of the Society are:

- to promote interest in literary, historical and scientific matters.

- to discover and record facts and information about Malawi which might otherwise be lost.

- to acquire books on Africa and on Malawi in particular to serve as a reference library to be maintained for the use of members and visitors.

- to support the Museums of Malawi.


Location:

The Society is located in the Mandala House, Blantyre. The building was constructed in 1882 by the African Lakes Company which was founded by the Moir brothers. It is thus the oldest building in Malawi. The reference library and the archives are located on the top floor.
