Welcome!

edit

Hello, Mountainrunner, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was 4th Psychological Operations Group, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! shoy (reactions) 18:51, 12 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

You have the same name as a website that you edited the links of, are you associated with it in any way? shoy (reactions) 18:53, 12 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. Additionally, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block. To do so, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. Request reason:

The block should be removed. The block was made in error. A reader of the page reached DM'd me on Twitter to say a link to my blog from the Wikipedia page in question was not working. I fixed the URL by removing the ".html" from the URL. I did not insert the citation or modify in any way other than to make the citation -- that someone else put in -- functional. And for the record, I do not know why I would have received other notices of advertising. mountainrunner (talk) 08:46, 13 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

You forgot to pick a new username and you forgot to show us where you declared your conflict of interest. Yamla (talk) 10:38, 13 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

We can ask Alexf but I think the main issue is your username, which cannot be that of a website or organization per the username policy. While you were not "advertising" per se, you were editing about what seems to be your website, which is a conflict of interest; and if you derive income from your website in any way, you would need to declare that paid relationship. 331dot (talk) 09:41, 13 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

The user refers to a website: http://mountainrunner.us - which matches the user name. Clear violation of the rules (username, conflict of interest, and undeclared paid advertising). -- Alexf(talk) 11:45, 13 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Requested username:

Request reason:

I have this username not for advertising but for clarity. And no, there is no income derived from the website. I review of the site, including through the WayBackMachine, will reveal there are no ads and never were ads, nor sales of any kind. True, about ten years ago I ran some executive training sessions in Washington, DC, which were noted on the blog, but nothing even resembling that since 2010 (or earlier). So, no conflict of interest or paid relationship matters here. And for the edit, again to be crystal clear: I fixed a link someone else had placed on the entry. I did not place it, I just modified it to make it work (by removing the .html). It seems rather clear that there was no self-dealing here. I will change, or create, my username accordingly. mountainrunner (talk) 11:07, 13 September 2019 (UTC) Because of the block, I cannot create a new user. So again, I request the removal of the block. mountainrunner (talk) 11:09, 13 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Accept reason:

The username is changed, fixing broken links is explicitly permitted per WP:COIU, and the statement that there's no paid editing is credible since the website in question is a personal blog. Welcome back. Huon (talk) 19:12, 14 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

I've merged your requests, as you only need one open request. Subsequent comments should be standard, unformatted comments. To propose a new username, please replace the open unblock request with the template specified in the block notice for proposing a new username and simultaneously requesting unblock. You do have a conflict of interest if it is your website. 331dot (talk) 11:11, 13 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Again, how about a new name of 54SquallingSorrel ? mountainrunner (talk) 12:15, 13 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

That is too similar to an existing username; please choose something else. Please remove the words 'orangekang' in the request above(which I altered to the proper request template) and replace them with your new choice. 331dot (talk) 12:23, 13 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
That's the point of the block. I've said how you can propose a new username, above. 331dot (talk) 13:48, 13 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
