- Thanks for your note on my talk page. I don't feel comfortable discussing possible sanctions against Gene Nygaard while he is blocked and unable to defend himself against accusations, whether or not those accusations are true or false (although obviously the incivility is indisputable). Despite his incivility, Gene is a valued and productive member of the community, and should be allowed to discuss the dispute. Further, because I have been recently involved in a disagreement with Gene (over use of italics on nomina nuda), I don't feel comfortable helping to make a decision on what to do with him. I did block Gene for six days, but as this was a block reduction (reduced from "indefinite", exhausting the community's patience"), I didn't feel it was a conflict of interest in reducing the block length). When Gene's block expires, I'd be happy to try to discuss the situation. My honest hope is that Gene will realize what a disturbance his incivility is, and start treating other editors the way he would like to be treated.
