Please accept my apologies for tagging all your contributions for deletion. They are public domain, and not subject to copyright. That being said, in my opinion, these articles in no way fit the form of Wikipedia articles. Although legal, the text you have added is just lifted from another website. The articles will need considerable improvement (we call that cleanup) to meet our standards.

Welcome. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you will enjoy it here. MKoltnow 18:14, 7 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • Sorry about this but most of the articles you have created do have copyright issues. They're taken with few if any changes from a government site, so they would normally be public domain, but the site states very clearly that this may not be the case. This is something you'll have to investigate if you wish to use this material. Moreover, as mentioned above, simply copying someone else's web page doesn't make an acceptable article. andy 23:19, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

  Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Midvalley fairy shrimp. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites (http://www.fws.gov/sacramento/es/animal_spp_acct/midvalley.htm in this case) or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Midvalley fairy shrimp with a link to where we can find that note;
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on the article Talk page. Alternatively, you may create a note on your web page releasing the work under the GFDL and then leave a note at Talk:Midvalley fairy shrimp with a link to the details.

Otherwise, you are encouraged to rewrite this article in your own words to avoid any copyright infringement. After you do so, you should place a {{hangon}} tag on the article page and leave a note at Talk:Midvalley fairy shrimp saying you have done so. An administrator will review the new content before taking action.

It is also important that all Wikipedia articles have an encyclopedic tone and follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you want to edit constructively, take a look at the welcome page. Thank you. .

The website that you copied from states that not all information is in the public domain. Anyway it's bad form at the very least to lift someone else's work without acknowledgement. andy 22:17, 7 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

ditto Buena Vista Lake Shrew. I'll get round to the other ones later unless you want to sort them all out right now by either getting permission or rewriting the articles. andy 22:21, 7 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I decline to delete these articles

because: The information not in the public domain on these sites is specified. Al US PD sites carry this legend, and all are used.USFWS pages are widely used throughout WP . [1]

It is to be construed by common sense. Andy's proposed rule would require the deletion of all US PD derived material--and all PD material, for this exception applies whether stated or unstated--no site can give permission for material it does not own or have under free license. Please discuss on WP:Copyright.

Anyway, this is not speedy--read WP:CSD--speedy for copyvio is for unquestionable copyvios, where no assertion of permission is given is given, and this is 1/ not unquestionable. 2/ permission is asserted. In cases which do not meet "unquestionable" it must be discussed.

The advisability of rewriting them to be more encyclopedic remains. DGG (talk) 01:15, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
