We Are Augustines

edit

Greetings! I've been reviewing your work on the We Are Augustines article. I think it's just about ready for inclusion, although if you would include some additional sourcing to absolutely reliable third party coverage it would make it more of a slam dunk. A Google search certainly reveals no shortage of people discussing the band, and I found at least one additional source at Live4ever. If you can add a few additional inline citations to reliable sources, I'd personally be happy to approve this and move it into article space. Indeed, I might do so right now but I think this might still be a bit borderline and I worry that if I move it without additional sourcing somebody will nominate it for deletion based on concerns about the existing source's reliability. Let me know if you have any questions, happy to help. Best, ɠǀɳ̩ςεΝɡbomb 13:31, 14 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

The above also applies to the Rise Ye Sunken Ships article, natch. ɠǀɳ̩ςεΝɡbomb 13:32, 14 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the warm welcome. These articles are my first contributions to Wikipedia and I'm glad you feel they will be good additions. I think I understand what the best examples of reliable sources are, but trying to find them when it comes to the band and the album seems difficult. They are as off-the-radar independent as it gets and none of the mainstream music journalists or outlets seem to know about them (yet). Nearly all the material I've uncovered is from blogs or directly from the band's websites. I found myself hoping Rolling Stone had magically picked up on the band this morning and posted a blurb. I've found some links to KEXP material and I was wondering if they qualify as professional experts in the relevant field? Thank you for guiding me through my first article. I'm feeling pretty comfortable so far and may considering contributing more. --MelvinSE (talk) 14:46, 14 June 2011 (UTC)MelvinSEReply

Well, mainstream isn't necessarily required. For example, here is a list of review sites that are generally considered acceptable, reliable sources. They're not all entirely mainstream, as far as I can tell. I think KEXP will actually suffice as a reliable source, depending on the nature of the coverage. Why don't you go ahead and add those sources to the article(s) and I can take a look? Both articles are extremely well-formatted and pretty well-written, so that definitely helps your cause as well :). ɠǀɳ̩ςεΝɡbomb 15:34, 14 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

I added the KEXP references and also a couple of Twitter references by the band to the iTunes chart performance of the album on its release. Do you think these changes suffice? Thanks again. --MelvinSE (talk) 16:17, 14 June 2011 (UTC)MelvinSEReply

We Are Augustines, which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.

Thank you for helping Wikipedia!

...as you can see, I've accepted the article. I think between existing sourcing (particularly KEXP, Spike Magazine, Live4ever) and various other material you've supplied, it passes the notability guidelines for bands...if not by a huge margin, as you yourself note above :). I'll keep an eye on this, and it would definitely be a good idea to keep an eye out for additional sourcing you can add to the article to make this a truer slam-dunk article, if that makes sense. Let me know if I can help in any way at all.

I'm going to have a look at the article on the album now. ɠǀɳ̩ςεΝɡbomb 17:49, 14 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the approvals. I am going to try and find a solid reference to the chart history for the album page. All your help was much appreciated. I hope to contribute more in the future and hopefully we'll run into each other again. --MelvinSE (talk) 18:33, 14 June 2011 (UTC)MelvinSEReply

No worries, happy to help -- and the process has netted the band one additional sale on iTunes, as I listened to a few samples and bought the thing ($5.99 is cheap enough for me to experiment). Pretty excellent stuff so far, so my music collection has benefited from this :). I may have to check out Pela, too. ɠǀɳ̩ςεΝɡbomb 18:38, 14 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Couldn't help but notice that you are a fellow Mets fan. I'm kinda pissed at them right now. I went into this year almost happy to have no expectations of any kind of success for a team that I perceived as being pretty dreadful...and here they are, 3.5 games out of the damn wild card despite having neither David nor Ike in the lineup (to say nothing of Baron von Johan). Can't they just take a year or two off from almost contending? Argh. Anyway. ɠǀɳ̩ςεΝɡbomb 12:25, 16 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Haha. Felt the same way at the start of the year. All I wanted to do was watch Ike play. No expectations or hopes for anything else. Then one day I wake up, the entire roster is injured and they are winning games. I thought for a second I was raptured, but that already passed. I always thought they should keep Wright and Reyes, but now there's talk of them holding on to Beltran for the rest of the year. Oy vey. They get me to stand up and cheer just to punch me in the face.--MelvinSE (talk) 12:51, 16 June 2011 (UTC)MelvinSEReply
