License tagging for Image:Ianlevine3-web.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Ianlevine3-web.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 23:08, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

External links edit

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policy for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. December 2007 edit

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Carrie Underwood. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Copyright problem: Simon Harris edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Simon Harris, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a copy from http://www.harrismix.com/about/, and therefore a copyright violation. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are liable to be blocked from editing.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under license allowed by Wikipedia, then you should do one of the following:

It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:Simon Harris saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved. Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing!
If you could also provide reliable third-party references as required by Wikipedia's guidelines, that would be helpful. Plad2 (talk) 20:53, 6 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

How to verify permission edit

Mr. Harris, as you were advised above, there are two ways that you can verify permission for this content. You can release it under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License (CC-BY-SA) at the source (you will also, as the copyright owner and the person who placed it here, need to release it under the similar GNU Free Documentation License) or you can send an e-mail to the Wikimedia Foundation releasing it under those licenses. These licenses are not compatible with one another, but are similar in that they each permit your content to be reused (even commercially) and modified, so long as the licensing conditions are met. Please let me know if you need clarification on either of those processes.

However, while I understand your desire to make sure that your article is free of inaccuracies, I do need to point out that Wikipedia strongly discourages people from editing articles about themselves. Please read over Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Autobiographies and also see Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Help for your best approach to maintaining quality article content related to yourself. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 23:56, 20 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you - the new text that is currently shown on my wikipedia page contains many errors and inaccuracies about me and my history, it says I live in Chigwell, i do not, it has all of my business partners listed wrongly, wrong details about what I am doing now and it says that one of my records will be re-released in 2006 when it is now 2010. The article I had there before was completely accurate. I did not post this on my website until after it was on wikipedia so the wikipedia page could not and was not a copyright violation of anything. You mentioned references, all of the details in the article are well known for example the list of music that i have produced and remixed - all of these were commercially available releases. As I have mentioned I am no wikipedia expert, I am just trying to present the most accurate and factual article which falls within the wikipedia guidelines:'Living persons may publish material about themselves' - there is no reasonable doubt as to its authenticity;

As mentioned I am very happy to release this text for use on wikipedia and grant the creative commons license. The part that confuses me is how to do this because I understand that before I send the email I should have the correct text on my page but you have removed this and it is now grayed out in the history. Sorry but I am finding this very very complicated, I understand that you want me to grant non exclusive permission via creative commons which i am very happy to do, the information is true, verifiable and accurate but I do not understand the steps involved.

I am just trying to make sure that the information that appears about me on wikipedia is true, accurate, as detailed as possible and informative. Nothing more - I do not understand the steps involved to make this acceptable to you so that wikipedia has the very best Simon Harris page that is true and accurate.

UPDATE: I have corrected some of the factual errors on the current page, I hope this helps. Many Thanks

The directions were written under the presumption that you would read them and respond within the seven day window initially provided. That you did not is no great problem; the volunteers who work that e-mail list can see the text, just as all admins can, and they can easily restore it. I'm sorry for the additional obstacles, but as this is a legal matter and we do not have any means to verify your identity on your account creation, we do have to take this additional step. It's one that all of us must follow, even administrators. It is intended to protect Wikipedia and its users from inadvertent violation of copyright and to protect copyright holders. The text is grayed out to prevent its being accidentally restored before we finish the verification process.
You say that the text was on Wikipedia first; if this is the case, then all you need to do is write the address above from an e-mail address clearly associated with the website and verify that. If you let me know you have sent the e-mail, I'll make sure that it is processed quickly.
I do not recall having mentioned references, but I see that the contributor who first notified you of the copyright concerns with the article did. What he is asking for is reliable sources to verify information. Becuase Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that anyone can edit, we rely on previously published sources to permit our readers to check and make sure that what they're seeing is accurate. As you yourself noted, there were inaccuracies in the earlier text of your article, and references to published sources help guard against these. Your website can be used to source some information, but most information should be sourced to independent references, such as newspaper articles, magazine profiles or separate industry websites. This also helps to avoid "original research": material that you may know to be true, but that has not been previously published. For example, this section needs references:

Harris is well known for his widely acclaimed 12 volume 'Beats Breaks and Scratches' breakbeat and sample album series - the world's best selling breakbeat collection[citation needed]. The collection has been used by Grammy winning artists including Luther Vandross and R.E.M.. Harris received a standing ovation for the album at the New Music Seminar in 1989, an event held annually by Tommy Boy's Tom Silverman.

To keep articles neutral, we don't add text like "widely acclaimed" without independent references proving this is true. We also need an independent source to verify that it is "the world's best selling breakbeat collection". And where is it published that you received a standing ovation? If it is not published, we can't retain it, even if it is true. We are a "tertiary source", a compendium of previously published information. We are not intended to serve as a primary source. See WP:PRIMARY. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:33, 21 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you sincerely, I agree to the removal of the words 'widely acclaimed' if they cause a problem, I do have various press releases that show this but it may be easier to just remove those words and also remove the words 'the world's best selling breakbeat collection' because even though this is also true, it would be a lot of work to provide documentation to show this because the albums have been available since 1986 and many of the sales figures would be difficult to obtain for this article.

Once again sincere thanks for your kind help and assistance and i look forward to my old wikipedia page being reinstated if possible. My deepest apologies also for not being experienced enough with wikipedia to know some of the rules and how to deal with them and i thank you so much for your kind guidance.

Music of Life edit

"Accurate" is not a problem. The article must have reliable secondary sources. Newspaper articles, magazines, reputable websites that are in-depth about the label. I was unable to find anything of substance. A directory listing on Discogs verifies that the label exists, but it doesn't go into any sort of detail. Detail is needed.
