September 2013 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Mcconnelfamily", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it implies that you are editing as a group - the 'family' part needs to be removed. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. Insulam Simia (talk · contribs) 11:19, 21 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thank you for that. I believe my username does not violate the policy as the 'family' part was only intended as I am doing a project on the McConnel Family which was why i created the wikipedia account. ----

Hi McConnelfamily - I am writing on behalf of the Cressbrook McConnel family in which you state you are doing a project on them. We would appreciate that you contact us directly, as some information you have posted on this sandbox is incorrect. We would like to work collaboratively with you to ensure that the Cressbrook McConnel, and Mt Brisbane McConnel family history is documented correctly. Family History edit

Please before you invest any more time in your project ...Wikipedia is not the place to publish your family history. Please see WP:NOTGENEALOGY Theroadislong (talk) 22:06, 3 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy.  You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you. unblock-un|mcconnelceza|reason=To make the username comply with the policy I would like to change it to a name which removes the word family so that it does not appear as if I am editing in a group or writing about my own family, then I will be able to be unblocked and continue to edit my wikipedia page which I am compiling for a university assignment on one of Queensland's influential pioneering families. unblock|reason=The username is McConnelfamily as it is a project about the McConnel family who were one of Queensland's pioneering families. This is not my own family history, instead the history of a family who was quite influential in South East Queensland Mcconnelfamily (talk) 23:58, 8 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Just a quick question regarding unblocking - are you also operating the account User:Ajgee93, or is that account operated by another student on your course? (If it is you, that's no problem - it just means we can close the unblock requests on this account without any action needing to be taken.) Also, is your course part of the Wikipedia Education Project? If so, could you add a link to the course page or to your tutor's Wikipedia account below? (And if not, you might want to let your tutor know that the Education Project exists; it's designed specifically for teachers and students who want to edit Wikipedia as part of an academic course). Since you are now editing under a new account, I'm going to leave this one blocked, and have deactivated the unblock requests above accordingly. Yunshui  22:41, 9 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
