Plese do not use blogs as a reference as you did in oil additive. Blogs rarely reach our requirements for a reliable source, including in this case. When you use a blog posting that happens to points readers to the product you had previously been promoting it looks very much like you are continuing to promote on Wikipedia. Please stop. Hi. As I say above - blogs are not considered reliable as references so I removed it because it does not meet our standards. Please try to remember we are trying to build a real encyclopedia here not simply a collection of all the things written about by anyone. As such the authority of the publication used as a reference is important. Peer reviewed academic papers, especially review papers published in well respected journals are pretty much at the top of the rankings for this. Blogs or other publications that maintain a more informal relationship with fact checking and tend to be prone to promoting the whims of their authors are at the bottom. For something like the use of nanotechnology in motor oils an academic paper should be available but articles in, for instance, motoring magazines that appear to be critical, rigorous and well researched might also be appropriate.

As to others advertising, the mere mention of a particular brand is not necessarily advertising. If neutral editors believe something is an appropriate addition to round out an article then we don't consider that advertising, though we still need to guard against unconscious bias. If you can point me to other cases where someone appears to be editing Wikipedia with the intent of promoting a particular product or company please do so. -- SiobhanHansa 19:43, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
