Articles for Deletion/Culture Wars in Canada edit

Hello Matthiasobrien. I noticed that your account is pretty new and that you only have a few edits, so I've decided to give you some unsolicited advice regarding the Articles for Deletion (AfD) process.

First, you should familiarise yourself with a few Wikipedia policies. The ones really relevant to your article are Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources, Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a dictionary#Neologisms, Wikipedia:Verifiability, and Wikipedia:Notability#General notability guideline.

One thing about the AfD process that newcomers don't realise is that it is not a vote. It is a discussion about the merits of the article when compared to relevant policy with the goal of achieving a concensus. If a concensus cannot be reached, the default decision is to keep the article. This will not save it from being nominated for deletion again. You can help build the concensus by reading what others say and by showing how the article meets policy. Convincing arguments can change the minds of other editors.

Don't be discouraged if your article does not survive the process. If it gets deleted, you can request an admin to "userfy" the article, which means taking placing it in your user space. Then you can keep the work you have done, improve the article, and then when you think it is ready you can have an experienced editor look at it and give you feedback. A good place to go for this article is Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada.

If you have any questions or need some help, don't hesitate to contact me via my talkpage. Cheers. Movementarian (Talk) 09:02, 27 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
