There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Alexf(talk) 10:53, 11 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

I left a perfectly valid link to an extra resource on trade marketing. It's a useful guide that compliments the limited nature of the existing definition on Wikipedia. It was not an attempt to market my business. If I needed the help, I'd certainly choose a medium other than Wikipedia

Decline reason:

That's still considered promotional on Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a place to post links deemed useful by those posting them. Please read WP:PROMO, WP:COI, and WP:PAID, and tell what you want to edit about other than your business if unblocked. Your username choice seems acceptable, but you will need to address these concerns. I am declining this request. 331dot (talk) 11:41, 11 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

it's a place where you're entitled (and encouraged) to enhance existing topics though, isn't it? Take the time to look at how many articles I've edited. You'll see it's zero. I don't understand why a fairly poor definition of trade marketing can't be improved with a link to a credible resource.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Splash Copywriters (talkcontribs)

Please read about conflict of interest. If you truly feel that it somehow enhances the article, you should open a discussion with an edit request on the article talk page. You should not directly edit about your business. However, please understand that Wikipedia is not a collection of links. 331dot (talk) 12:30, 11 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Fine, but then the query isn't about what I'm doing, it's about the process. If you let me know the best practices for suggesting edits and improvements, I can follow it. 'Talk' pages are completely new to me. I thought you edited where you thought the page could be improved, a page owner would see it and assess it.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Splash Copywriters (talkcontribs)

As I said, the proper process for someone with a COI to suggest edits is to make an edit request(see that link for more information) on the relevant article talk page, so independent editors can evaluate the request. You will also need to formally declare your conflict of interest and comply with WP:PAID per Wikipedia's Terms of Use(as I assume you are paid for your work with your business). You are welcome to make another unblock request, which someone else will review, but if the only thing you want to do here is add links to your business, I think it is unlikely you will be unblocked. You will need to indicate what other contributions you want to make as a general Wikipedia contributor. 331dot (talk) 13:15, 11 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Now I understand. That's fine. You can interpret what you want but the reality is I tried to add a solitary link to an underperforming page. I don't want to 'only add links to my business' at all. I use Wikipedia a lot for research and furthermore, I'm a copywriter, so I care about quality content. What do I have to do to get unlocked?

You will need to make a new unblock request just as you did before(suggesting your choice of new username) which addresses the concerns I discussed here. Another uninvolved administrator will review that request. 331dot (talk) 13:30, 11 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I'm a copywriter, I use Wikipedia a lot for research and I care about quality content. I'd like to help improve articles where I can. I'm new to editing Wikipedia though, so wasn't aware of requesting improvements - I thought you just edited and someone reviewed. Now I know how to offer suggestions.

Accept reason:

It seems like you made an innocent mistake and that you understand the problem, so I'm happy to unblock you. Please have a read of WP:COI and WP:PAID if you have not already done so (though I presume you have, looking at the interaction above), and please do not directly make any edits where you might have a conflict of interest (but request them on the article talk page instead). Anyway, welcome back. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 16:12, 11 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
