Copyright edit

Hi, Mateyahoy, I wanted to explain my response at Talk:Atmospheric_water_generator in a little more detail, though keep in mind that I'm just a volunteer and definitely not a lawyer.

So, the file in question (commons:File:Atmospheric_Water_Generator_diagram.jpg ) is a modified derivative of the original file that you uploaded under this name: File:Everestwatercom.jpg. The problem is that, when you uploaded Everestwatercom.jpg to Wikipedia, you released it into the public domain, which was ulitmately verified by you when you sent an email to the OTRS system. Well, what "public domain" means is that basically anyone can use your file to do anything, without needing to ask your permission and without violating any copyright; releasing something into the public domain is more or less relinquishing your claim of copyright over it. Now, on Wikipedia, we do still require that derivative works like this still give credit to the original author, but as you can see from the commons page I linked above, you are indeed credited as the original author: Author: User:Mateyahoy; modified by User:T34CH to remove title. That's all Wikipedia policy will require of people, and I'm sorry, but there's not really anything that can be done about it that I know of. Writ Keeper  06:21, 7 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
