I highly suggest you read Wikipedia:Citation overkill. If one source verifies information you do not need to add more citations. CursedWithTheAbilityToDoTheMath (talk) 03:54, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

I have read it well before editing anything. On previous accounts, I have experience with avoiding citation overkill.
If citations provide new information or support notability, it is not logical to remove them. It also does not break any rules within overkill. Marcusamour (talk) 03:58, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Adding citations that provide new information is only valuable if you are adding that new information to the wikipedia page as well. And actually adding these extra citations tends to call the notability into question, which is clearly states in WP:OVERKILL. Additionally if you are using multiple accounts to edit wikipedia you should disclose that per WP:MULTIPLE. CursedWithTheAbilityToDoTheMath (talk) 04:04, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
If certain points in the article are not actually backed up by any existing citation, then a new citation can be used to support it. Deleting these citations does not make any sense.
My interpretation of notability is that it is a spectrum and less binary. Lots of additional news coverage means more notability than before with infinite growth. An elite 4 time Olympian will be more notable than a 2 time olympian who had similar accomplishments and the former will have more media coverage. Marcusamour (talk) 04:13, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Your first point doesn't apply in this situation because you were adding citations to claims that were aready backed up. While yes more news coverage does typically mean more notability, adding all of that news coverage to an article doesn't have the effect of establishing notability. Certain points were not backed up. I will re-edit slightly and show you what I mean. Marcusamour (talk) 04:18, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
