Vulgar Latin

It's a widely known fact that there was a significant difference between literary and popular Latin in the Roman world. So I wasn't trying to "prove" this fact in my edit summary by citing the wikipedia article, but just trying to remark something which -in my naivety- I assumed to be obvious. Latin Spelling and Pronunciation

I reverted your reversion of the article on Latin spelling and pronunciation‎. The monophthongization of /æ/ in unaccented syllables (such as in Troiae) took place early in the republican period. (Corssen I, 687 ff.) It's unlikely that Virgil himself would have pronounced unaccented /æ/ as a diphthong.
