Good choice

edit

I'm so glad that you closed the Rfc. I hope you understand that I was looking out for your best interest when I suggested that you end the Mfd of his subpage and the Rfc. I'm sure that was the case with some of the other editors too. We weren't doing it to take sides with Mel against you. One day if you do something similar for someone else, you will understand better why we jumped in right away. regards, --FloNight talk 22:10, 18 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fixed. Thank you for alerting me to the situation. One question about double tags has been asked on your talk page. Tbanks!Mademoiselle Sabina 19:46, 19 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Great work!

Great work on the photos of Broadway theatres. I'll bet that was fun. --rogerd 06:01, 22 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the encouraging words! It was indeed fun taking all those photos. :) Mademoiselle Sabina 08:18, 22 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Artistic gymnastics

edit

Taking into account your excellent style and knowledge on the subject, it would be great if you write something up about Maria Filatova!

Thank you for your opinion! Yes, Euros seems inappropriate unless other continentals are mentioned as well. Thank you for the idea of the team competition template! I've created/reformatted three templates, which I'll include into articles later today:

{{NavigationWorldChampionsArtisticGymnasticsWomenAA}}

{{NavigationWorldChampionsArtisticGymnasticsWomenTC}}

{{Footer olympic champions individual all-round women}}

For the team competition I presented only country names, because listing all team members would take a lot of space. I wanted to make all background "gold", but then names of athletes would be difficult to read, hence I chose "standard" background colors. Have you any suggestions/comments about their format, colours, layout, etc.?

I think it looks nice as is! The gold is there in the header, so it's fine. :) Thanks for setting up the template. I wouldn't have had the slightest idea how to make one of those (I've edited templates but never done them outright).
I am going to start writing something up about Filatova tomorrow methinks...I'm way too tired to do it tonight. Nice edits on the Turischeva article, BTW! :) Namaste Mademoiselle Sabina 23:30, 22 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

BTW, it will be OK, if you reply only on your Talk Page, I'll copy your replies to my one. Cmapm 12:30, 22 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for being so nice to me in each of your replies! :) In case you encounter problems with Russian names, I'll provide them. By the way, it seems to me, that Russian is not that difficult to learn, as compared to hieroglyphic languages :) In case you need help on some topics or have some problems, just ask, I'll be very glad to help you!
I should like to know your opinion and any suggestions in clarifying some issues. First, I am not sure, is it nice to include nationals and continentals into tables of achievements (like for Natalia Yurchenko and Polina Astakhova) or not? Other problems are related to women's World Championships: I can't find team members, which competed in the Team Competition events for any of the Championships prior to 1979, anywhere in the internet; since 1991 Team Competition event and even AA were not held regularly, e.g. no Team Competition in 2005. Of course these are my personal problems, but maybe you have some ideas? Cmapm 15:34, 23 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
No worries, you're a nice person! :) One of these days I will have to return to learning Russian. :)
I think that in terms of the individual gymnast page, talking about their national/regional credentials is fine. it's a big deal to win your country's Nationals, so I think it's a major achievement worth mentioning.
I found the URS and ROM rosters for the 1978 Worlds here: http://www.gymn-forum.com/results/Worlds/Women/1978_teams_1-2.html For the others, a book I have might have the full list of team members...OK, checked, it doesn't. :(I can puzzle out partial rosters from the AA/EF results, but that's no help. Maybe for the years without full Worlds (92, 96, 02, 05) the entry could say "no team competition held" or something?
Thank you for all of your ongoing help and ideas here! I'd be lost in this topic without your help and input. :) Namaste, Mademoiselle Sabina 20:44, 23 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your help here! I'm inspired to create new biographical articles and expand existing ones, including national/regional achievements into them! :)

Your link will be very helpful, when I come to inclusion of all the results into articles about the Championships, like I already did for some Olympics. And for now I've just solved the problem - using an extensive web search in languages other than EN and RU I found a German page with all team members! I'm ready to include them into pre-1979 articles in a while (after I scan my photo) :)

Yes, such entry is a good idea! I'll also think of its inclusion into templates, created by me. But I wonder, why those Worlds weren't full? Cmapm 23:18, 23 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yay! Great that you were able to find a source for the earlier team rosters. Fabulous work. :) I hope you will create new articles, I'd be happy to read them.
For the Worlds...from what I have read and heard, the FIG goes back and forth with the Worlds every single quadrennium and can't ever finalize a permanent schedule. They had FIVE WC between 1993-1996 and people complained it was too much; they had only two Worlds in the 1997-2001 quad and people complained it was too few; this Olympic cycle they have changed things yet again and the only full Worlds will be this year, 2006. 2007 will be a full TF/AA/EF Worlds but will only be open to the top 16 teams from 2006 Worlds. It's confusing to say the very least! Personally I like the format they had last quad: full Worlds in 2001 and 2003; EF in 2002.
Thanks again for all your help and support here! I am very glad to work on these articles and chat with you. Your photo is very nice, BTW! Were those passport or ID photos? And I'm honored to be listed so nicely on your UserPage. Namaste, Mademoiselle Sabina 08:39, 24 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Mmm! It was very interesting, thank you! :) BTW, I like your easy to understand descriptive style very much! I see the format of the Worlds to be very confusing too. The only consolation is that Olympics have a permanent format so far :(
These photos were ID ones, taken for a Pioneer palace, where I attended some sports sections :) somewhere between 1988 and 1991. Passport photos were taken only in the mid-1990s.
I like your UserPage very much too. For example, your language skills are amazing! I consider myself to be more or less fluent only in three ones (RU, EN and republican), my skills in two other - Spanish and Chinese - are very very basic and I have no any communication skills for them :)
Your help in all questions, which were "misty" to say the least to me is appreciated very much! I have no more so far. You are always welcomed very much to chat with me at any time or ask for any help! All other possibilities, like e-mail enabling here, AIM or ordinary e-mail are always available too for you on my part. I'm very proud of being listed on your UserPage, with such a nice comment to me! :) Cmapm 10:52, 24 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Aw, thank you! I have only hopped online to do a few small edits tonight so I will answer this tomorrow or Monday. I notice you are working on the gymnastics articles tonight. Keep up the great work and I'll be in touch again soon! Namaste, Mademoiselle Sabina 09:05, 26 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Wah! Thank you for articles about Russian gymnasts, created recently by you! I'll use them as an example of the most important things, which should be mentioned first of all in such articles, in the future and include links to "What happened..." website into other articles. I am going to provide Russian names and do some minor fixes in a while. I've also found an animation of Omelianchik's element, but animations don't work here on the library's computer, I'll include the link, but check it tomorrow at home. Sorry, I'm offline today. Thank you for making great gymnasts of the past and present represented here in the way they deserve! Cmapm 13:36, 27 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the kind words! Thank you also for updating the articles with the gymnasts' full names and their Russian counterparts. It's most helpful, that's something I'd never be able to find on my own. It's good to have a great editor like you working with me to make these articles the best they can be.
I'm trying to update the classics...I was frankly a little stunned that Omelianchik and Filatova didn't have Wiki entries before now. Next up I'm going to try to add more to the Yurchenko article (gymnast, not vault :) and create pages for Ma Ynahong and Mostepanova.
Thanks for your ongoing help and support here! Namaste, Mademoiselle Sabina 20:44, 27 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
I was always delighted with your edits and inspired by them and my help is nothing as compared to your contributions.
I would be happy to see more of your edits on gymnastics-related topics! BTW, I can provide Chinese names of athletes as well.Cmapm 07:48, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thank you again for all your help here! I am honored to be working with you. You're doing fantastic work with the footnotes, the tables, the photos...thanks for uploading a picture of Lydmilla T. at Wembely. That routine, where she calmly walks off the podium after the bars collapse, just exemplifies what an amazing person she is. Thank you also for providing the Chinese name translations. I'd never be able to do that myself.
Looking forward to talking and editing with you more! Namaste, Mademoiselle Sabina 01:52, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I am happy to see you here again! :) I was weary for you to come! While I was waiting for you, I found some videos in the web, the one which I liked very much was about gymnastics at the 1980 Olympics, the music there is just fantastic in my opinion, and I took a nice photo of Maxi Gnauck from it. Thank you for the article about Ma Yanhong! I want to ask, would tables with major achievements be appropriate in articles about Maria Filatova and Oksana Omelianchik? It is very important for me, that you leave a note here, when you are away for some time, because I can't imagine staying here without you. Cmapm 22:13, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm glad to have such a warm welcome back! Thank you. This note made me smile. :)
There's a lot of great gymnastics videos out there, yes! I am glad to have the opportunity to watch some of the meets I have missed in the past. Have you ever seen the footage from the Olomouc/Alternate/Friendship Games? A friend of mine gave me some clips from that a while back, and there was such awesome gymnastics there.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of your edits! Thanks for adding the photos. They really make the difference between a good article and a great article! :) I think it would be fine to have tables for Maria Filatova and Oksana...sometimes it's a lot easier to look right at the table and see what the results are quickly. :)
oh, and one other thing...I added a little about age limits to the main Artistic Gymn article because it occurred to me that in a lot of articles, we talk about seniors and juniors and those terms might not always be understood. I did write that the age limit is somewhat controversial, but I am not sure how far to go with that. There are plenty of sources from people arguing both sides and articles about some of the more famous age falsifications, and it has been a major concern for the sport, but I don't know if it would add an air of unecessary controversy to the article. What do you think?
Have a good evening! Namaste. Mademoiselle Sabina 05:56, 6 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for such warm words concerning my edits! :) And by the way, I was serious in my previous note, especially in its last sentence. Also thank you for your opinion about tables, which was very important for me.
Your addition into the article about artistic gymnastics was great! And it was just in time, because a day or two ago I encountered the age-limit question, writing one of the articles :) The current situation is covered excellently in my opinion, and I think, that more controversies are OK, when they are related directly to the subject, i.e. artistic gymnastics, are based on reliable sources and cover the situation from both sides of the dispute or in some other neutral way. If the section becomes too long, it may easily be made into a separate article. I think, that historical change of age limits, if it could be found, should also be added. But so far I have no idea, in which form - whether should it be added into the section, where historical change of the average age is described, or into some other section. I am going to look at some examples of articles about sports from the featured article "collection" to have a hint, how the article about artistic gymnastics could be improved :)
Actually, I'm looking for any gymnastics videos from the period 1952-1991, mostly for WAG ones, because my native country's achievements in MAG were not as great. And after your words I'll be looking for Alternate Games most intensively :) So far I have no idea, where I could get them from.
I hope to see your excellent edits again! Cmapm 14:37, 6 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for such kind words and for doing such excellent work with the tables, edits, etc.!
I agree, something about the historical age limits should be added to the AG article. We have a little about it in WAG, but it would be nice to have something more substantial. Joan Ryan has some stats in her book, but they're specific to USA Gymnastics so they're not much help overall.
Thanks also for your suggestions on the controversial issues! I am going to take some time to think about this, how to phrase everything. I'mn trying to do that with the Octavian Belu article too--I have not touched it yet, but it would be nice to give a more balanced view of the controversy surrounding him.
Oh, and about the videos--I'm looking for vintage videos myself! I've seen a few of Latynina's and Caslavska's routines, but I'd love to see more from the late 50s and early 60s. If I can figure out how to use Yousendit, I can try to pass on some of the Olomouc vids if you like.
I am going to be away from Wiki for most of the weekend, so let's try to work on this early next week? Have a great weekend! Namaste, 01:55, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for the great articles, just created/edited by you and for your nice thoughts on questions, asked by me on Talk Pages! I have an idea to search for age limits in the IOC publications, like Olympic Review or Olympic Reports, which are all available online. I hope, that at least for Olympics such information could be found.
If you upload such videos somewhere, it would be so great!!! If not, well, then I'll have yet another opportunity to improve my googling/emuling/etc. skills :) BTW, are you acquainted with the Emule/Edonkey network? Some files, which are unavailable in the rest of the web, can sometimes be found there... If I find some vids from 1950s-1960s, I'll certainly let you know.
Just a few minutes online today, I'll be editing more actively tomorrow. Never feel obliged to do any work here, I'm so happy just to see you!!! I hope, that you'll have a nice and pleasant weekend! Desiring to feel your presence and waiting for you always. Cmapm 16:36, 8 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Back to work now, sort of. I have a memorial service/funeral to attend tomorrow and I'm running around, but I'm popping onto Wiki to edit as much as I can. I added an article about Natalia Kuchinskaya--amazing that she didn't have one already!!
I *think* that the age limit was moved to 15 after the 1980 Olympics, but I could be mistaken here. That's when all the age falsifications start. It must have been tweaked a few times before that, though--I read that Karen Kelsall (Canada) had to be petitioned into the 1976 Games because she was born in December. I'll have to do more research here.
I don't know about the edonkey network, no. I basically depend on what I can find floating around online. There used to be a wonderful site a few years ago that had all sorts of old videos (that's actually how I got to see Kuchinskaya!) but they're out of business now. I shall keep searching and let you know. Have a great Monday! It's always lovely to see you here. Namaste, Mademoiselle Sabina 21:53, 10 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the article! It's great, that you are here again! Sorry for the late reply - I managed to miss your comment... :( I was online just for an hour or two yesterday, but will be online all the day through today (it's a late night here currently, 4:20, Tuesday) - I hope to do the main searching work then (on age limits, AG, etc.).
I've just downloaded a few pieces (separate routines) from 1952-1968 (Gorokhovskaya, Keleti, Latynina, Caslavska, Zuchold, Brause, Kuchinskaya, Druzhinina) and was also amazed by Astakhova's 1966 UB routine. Do you have them? So far I didn't find in emule/edonkey any gymnastics vids, which couldn't be found online (although there are some exclusive Soviet music videos), I'll tell, when I do find ones. Always desiring to see you again. Cmapm 01:20, 11 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Oh wow! Those shound great. I've never seen anything by most of those gymnasts! Hw cool that you have found them. I am told there's a lot of good stuff on the Hub as well, but my computer does not like the Hub so I'm not going there. :)
I was mired in another edit yesterday but I'm going to try working on Belu and Betty Okino tonight if I can. Thank you again for looking after all the gymnastics articles here! it's great working with you. Hoping your week is going well and we'll talk again soon. Namaste, Mademoiselle Sabina 01:31, 13 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
The only problem on the Hub for me is the "slots available" feature - I can't get some files due to it. But anyway it's great, I'm downloading some Olomouc vids from there currently :) If you ever need something (including files mentioned above), just ask - I'll search for them on the Hub and try to upload somewhere else for you, e.g. to the YSI.
I've recently read Wikipedia:User_page for the first time :) And discovered, that my one has many features, which are not permitted :) I'm going to adjust it now, but in any case, I hope to get back to gymnastics-related articles today. The week is fine, particularly due to the Sun, shining here (it's you). I desire it to be fine for you as well. Cmapm 07:35, 13 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I took a look at the article--nice edit. Thank you. It's going to take me a little while to figure out how to use the citation tags correctly so I will look at this again tomorrow with a fresh mind. Namaste, Mademoiselle Sabina 23:30, 22 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for helping Wikipedia

edit

Thank you for helping Wikipedia. Everyone here has their blind spots. One of Mel's is American English. All the rules and all the procedures and all the mediation are aimed at making this a better encyclopedia, not punishing anybody. Mel helps make wikipedia a better encyclopedia. I think you'll grow to like this place even more than you do now. Thanks again for your contributions to making a great free encyclopedia for every person on this planet. Cheers. WAS 4.250 01:19, 23 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for these words, and for the support. You're right, every one of us has a blind spot, in one form or another; personality conflicts are bound to arise on a site with so many diverse individuals. One can only attempt to move around them, I suppose. :) Thank you again! Namaste, Mademoiselle Sabina 06:23, 23 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
By the way, have you seen the new referencing style? I like it a lot better cause I can move text around with the footnotes, and they order themselves. Example:

qwe [1] uio [2] zxc [2]

  1. ^ rty
  2. ^ a b fgh Slashdot whatever

WAS 4.250 10:50, 23 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have seen it...I'm a dunce with it, though. I can't figure it out, even when it's explained to me and written out the way you've shown it here. I tried following your example above but for some reason my brain's having none of it; when I previewed it in the TS I ended up with weird markup errors. I will have to work it out over the next few days methinks...Thank you! Namaste 11:19, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Whatever you want in a footnote you just bracket it with the ref things.

Text to be footnoted. [1] More Text [2]

place footnotes go

  1. ^ stuff in the footnote
  2. ^ more stuff in the footnote

WAS 4.250 13:53, 23 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

So that's what happens if you use the place-footnotes-go symbol twice, I didn't know that. You are only supposed to use it once under a heading like footnotes or references or sources. WAS 4.250 13:58, 23 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Aha. That's how it works. I think I must have forgotten to close the tag at the end and perhaps that's why I saw lots of red error messages?? I'll play around with this in the Sandbox and see if I can get it in order enough to update the article that needs to be cited. Thank you for the heads up and help with this! Namaste, Mademoiselle Sabina 20:48, 23 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Phantom

edit

Nice job on the synopsis. I've read it a couple of times and I'm trying to think of a way to cut it down some, but I just end up finding more things to put in. Typical. Made a couple of edits, though. Check them, make sure they're right. I haven't so much as listened to the CDs in years, so my memory could be playing tricks on me. BTW -- you TOTALLY sound like a girl with whom I went to college. Her name was Sabina, she was originally from some Nordic country that's escaping me right now, she was a dancer, etc, etc, etc.... I'm sure you're not her, just because I don't think she'd be on WP, but I had to tell you that.... -- MusicMaker5376 04:52, 12 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for looking over the edit! I can't believe I wrote "hids" instead of "hides"...laws. This is what happens when I'm up late editing with a cold. :) Everything looks fine.
I have a doppelganger, it seems! For me Sabi is only a pseudonym and is nothing close to my real name. I do have some Nordic blood, though. :) Mademoiselle Sabina 05:06, 12 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
I looked over it again, today, and fixed some small details. There was a line about the Phantom "screaming and chasing Christine around the lair" that made me think of Michael Crawford wailing like a banshee while waving his arms over his head and terrorizing Sarah Brightman. So I changed it. I also tried to cut out anything that I didn't specificially remember seeing when I saw the show -- usually it had to do with people crying. I don't think the Phantom cried quite that much -- especially because if the actor actually had tears coming out of his eyes, he'd probably screw up most of the makeup.
Also, the Afd for the songs are up here. I just nominated them all; if we want to recreate one or two later, we always can.
-- MusicMaker5376 19:59, 12 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Oh! And I reorded the sections in the article. I just feel that all of the information regarding the show should come first, and the synopsis and song listing should be saved for last. -- MusicMaker5376 20:10, 12 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! I am glad the AfD has been sorted out. I went over and voted. Thanks also for looking over my edits--I had the libretto in front of me for reference, but a lot of it was recollections from the stage show, which probably did include more stage directions (crying, etc.) than would be appropriate. It's always good to have a second pair of eyes looking over one's work. Mademoiselle Sabina 01:34, 13 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

If I can trouble you for a little feedback

edit

I got sidetracked into this 'gem' (Ahem) and we haven't touched base for a while.

It's not quite a party, but... You are cordially invited to pick on Frank:

re: Request some 'peer review' (Talkpage sections detailing concerns)] on new article: Arsenal of Democracy This post is being made Friday 14 April 2006 to a double handful (spam?) of admins & editors for some reactions, and advice (Peer Review) on this article, and it's remaining development, as I'd like to put it to bed ASAP. (Drop in's welcome too!) Your advice would be valuable and appreciated. Replies on talk link (above) indicated. Thanks! FrankB 20:30, 14 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • I just ripped this off my talk cleaning up for a WikiDayOff tomarrow, and realized you weren't an invitee on the above. Apologies. I've gotten some good input, but can use more. Bear in mind to go to the talk section link first for the brief, then the article. The issue is really how to design an article covering the topic. This 'draft' just sort of 'happened', as is explained. (btw- if you don't like history, don't bother! <G>)

Best!

Hi Frank! Good to hear from you. I am sorry I haven't been in touch more...I've drifted from Wiki lately and I'm off to Easter festivities tomorrow...but I will definitely have a look at this. Just to clarify, you want feedback on the talk page; not direct edits on the article...? Have a good night! Namaste, Mademoiselle Sabina 06:44, 16 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! That was quick - you have all week! Happy Easter, Gotta get some ZZZZzzzz's! Best Regards, FrankB 07:11, 16 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Misunderstanding on my side

edit

Hi, Mademoiselle Sabina! Wow! Thank you for denying my concerns and for the great support! I'm back :) This was just a bad time, that caused me to think in a wrong way - I made very radical rewriting of my Userpage and thought, that this should certainly affect you... All the more, that these changes did in fact worsen the page very much, although I was forced to make them.

As some sort of excuse for misunderstanding, I presented some personal details in the copy of this my reply to you on my Talk Page - read them if you want. My status is now again the same, as was before. Please, edit here in the way and in the time you find to be appropriate and convenient, but, please, leave a note, when you plan to stop edits for more than a day :) Always happy to see you. Cmapm 22:57, 16 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Cmapm! I'm glad to see there's no misunderstanding on either side. I am touched you think so highly of me! It's not always possible for me to give notice when I need to leave here, because I often do so in a hurry, but if I am ever gone for an extended period of time I will do my best to get in touch somehow.
I hope you are doing well! I'm glad to see your comments here always. Namaste, Mademoiselle Sabina 03:42, 27 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Mademoiselle Sabina!!! I am so delighted today!!! My waiting is rewarded with your comeback, and I am very happy!!! I am going to continue my contributions into Wikipedia, and be more attentive to them: I realized, that I made too many errors in my past edits. It's wonderful to see you here again!!! Your native tongue

edit

You write:

"Ironically American English is my native language". I can't find anything "ironic" about it. Wouldn't "nevertheless" be the more appropriate term?

BTW: Have you seen

You are on the fast track to Wikicelebrity ;-) Fossa 21:26, 26 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello, thank you for your comments!
I use the word "ironic" because American English is not the native language one would normally expect from someone born and educated in Europe. I appreciate your opinion, but I think my word works here. :)
I appreciate the link to that website...I didn't know about it before, and it was certainly an intriguing read! Thanks for the heads up. Best, Mademoiselle Sabina 03:39, 27 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the jumping in, I just want to explain... That site is on the Wikipedia's Spam Blacklist (scroll down to the bottom of the page), and, therefore, links to it from all Wiki pages are prohibited. That's why InShaneee removed a link to it from here. By the way, it was interesting to read the opinion there, although I personally don't like to remember that case. Cmapm 15:46, 28 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Aha. I thought it might be something like that; I read that the site in question is not exactly well-liked by Wikipedia. No worries. Thanks for the link to the blacklist, I'll have to take a look at it! Namaste, Mademoiselle Sabina 20:02, 28 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Music in biographies

edit

Hi again! Recently I was very interested in searching for the floor exercise music, used by some gymnasts. Generally I didn't include this info into articles, created by me, I included it only in rare cases. But now I think, to what an extent should it be appropriate to mention: for all events, mentioned in the article, if possible; only for the Worlds and Olys; only where the gold medal was won on the floor? Should this info be incorporated into the article or listed in the separate section "Floor exercise music", like it is in some of the existing articles? What do you think?

By the way, I've noticed the warning, that this page is already 33 KB long, some users move pages into an archive in such cases, although it's not necessary, depends on user's preference. And if you want, we can discuss other means of our communication/notifications: AOL, e-mail, IRC, etc. Just ask!

I am always happy, when I see you here! Cmapm 11:40, 28 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Cmapm! Thanks for the kind words. :) In regards to the FX music...I think it belongs in the "Skills" section of the page and not a separate section. If there's a discrepany where it needs to be explained further (ie, the Henrietta Onodi article--I mentioned she performed to "Hungarian Rhapsody" because she actually had two different FX routines that season) or it's especially notable (like Silvia Mitova's "Blues for Klook" or Amy Chow's controversial "Dixie" music) then it could be included in the body of an article. Usually the gymnasts' FX routines are used for at least one season, so perhaps it would be better to list it as:
2002-2003: "Whatever the song title is" by Whoever the artist is

Have a great day! It's always nice to see you here. Namaste, Mademoiselle Sabina 20:08, 28 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the suggestion, I find it to be very nice and reasonable! I didn't search for music of gymnasts, other than Soviet so far, and I tried to introduce some info into the article about Oksana Chusovitina, which explicitly has the "Skills" section. Would you like to have a look there - whether I chose a good presentation form or not? I also tried to incorporate similar info into the article about Turishcheva - according to one of her bios, she was one of the first to perform two separate floor routines in an international meet, I think this deserves to be mentioned in the main body. Feel free to adjust that info in any way and express any critical objections!
I've downloaded Silvia Mitova's routine at 1991 Worlds. I am not a specialist, but I find her choreography there to be fantastic! Thank you very much for mentioning it!
I'll be able to make just a few, if any, edits on Saturday, but to be back online on Sunday. Have a great and pleasant weekend! You are so nice! Cmapm 23:19, 28 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the kind words again! :) I took a look at the Chusovitina article. I think the way you formatted the FX music there is perfect. I'll try to start incorporating this format into other articles where I can.
I also looked over the Tourischeva article. Great work! I had one critical suggestion about the article, though. I was wondering how you'd feel about nixing the mention of Olga Korbut from the line "Over the next six years Turishcheva, along with the great Olga Korbut, would become one of the stars of the Soviet team." I agree wholeheartedly that she was a big part of Soviet gymnastics in the 70s, but the article's about Lydmilla--and Olga's mentioned below already. Also, Korbut and Tourischeva were not always side by side on the Soviet team. Lydmilla won a lot of her medals, including her Worlds AA gold, before Olga was really on the scene. Olga was coming up while Lydmilla was winding up her career. What do you think? Have a great weekend! Namaste, Mademoiselle Sabina 07:57, 29 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for such a high appreciation of my work! :) I've also noticed the great work on the uniform and mat articles by you! It's really superb!
Sorry, I didn't notice that sentence in the article about Tourischeva until now. Already "the great Olga Korbut" is a POV, and the info is obviously inaccurate. I tried to reword this, although I'm not sure, whether Tourischeva was already the leader before 1970 or became the one in that year (at least after the Worlds). By the way, what do you think about that article's name? The variant "Lyudmila Turishcheva" doesn't seem to be the most popular in reliable sources. I was thinking of "Ludmila Tourischeva" or "Lyudmila Tourischeva", or maybe another one? What name would you suggest?
Thank you very much for all your help! When you need for a look from my point of view on any article, created/edited by you (on any topic), always feel free to say this! By the way, I've noticed very nice photos of theatres, uploaded by you not long ago. I can't say almost anything on these topics, but it would be easy and interesting for me to find satellite images of theatres :) Like I had found and included a link to such an image into the article Globe Theatre about a year ago (3rd external link there). Although this would distract me from the most award-winning sport of my native country for some time :) Would such links be appropriate there?
It's a great pleasure for me to see you and to talk with you. Cmapm 13:09, 30 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hi there! Hope you had a good weekend. Thank you for the supportive words with the other articles and photos I have been working on. :)
Thanks for looking over the Tourischeva article! :) Yes, I get the feeling that 1970 was the turning point for her. I think in 1968-69, the focus was really on Kuchinskaya, and it was only when Kuchinskaya left that Tourischeva started to really become a star. I agree, perhaps one of the other variations of her name would be better for her page. Most people wouldn't automatically look for the spelling as it is. The spelling that comes up on the NY Times and the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame is "Ludmilla Tourischeva", that's my vote. :)
Thank you for the kind words, and yes, I will keep you in mind if I ever need a second pair of eyes to look over an article. :) The Satellite picture of the Globe is awesome...I don't think ones of the Broadway theatres would be needed though. From above they're just black rooftops, not at all interesting from the air, like the Globe. Thank you for the offer though! :)
Have a good Monday, Namaste, Mademoiselle Sabina 00:39, 1 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hi! Thank you for the suggestion, concerning Tourischeva's name! BTW, in Olympic Revue and at the FIG's website the variant "Ludmilla Tourischeva" was also sometimes used. Hence, there were two votes for :)
Yes, it's reasonable! I've just located some of them, and I see, that from above those buildings are not too remarkable, it was even hard to distinguish them from the surrounding ones. Another argument against would be that they are located not too far from each other, and, say, five sat pictures each with five same theatres would not be appropriate.
Wow, I've noticed, that all sections on your UserPage begin with my favourite letter A, the first one in my real name :) My very best wishes to you! Always desiring to see you again Cmapm 02:09, 1 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hi! Whew, thanks for all the help in getting the Tourischeva (or is it Turischeva? ;) article in order. I had no idea some people would be so admantly opposed to the move, but I think your action of asking for consensus on the merge/move was an excellent move. We'll get it worked out. :)
Ah, so your name starts with an A? Alexei? Anton? Aiesha? OK, I'm pretty sure it's not that last one. :) Have a great night! Namaste, Mademoiselle Sabina 05:22, 2 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hi! I wasn't prepared for such a quick opposing response :) I had proposed a move of "Larisa Latynina" to "Larissa Latynina" and have been waiting for any objection almost a week already :)And here we had it on the next (or the same?) day, although the old variant was popular only in Wikipedia and its mirrors :) It would be nice to see that reply though IMHO, if sourced. I personally find "Tourischeva" to be more appropriate, mostly due to the IGHOF using it, but "Turischeva" would be OK too, IMHO. We'll see, whether the proposed move be accepted. But I'll not be surprised already to encounter "Turishcheva" again tomorrow or even today :)
No, my name is more difficult to pronounce for non-Russian-speaking people :) Further guesses ? :) This list of Russian names would be helpful to you :)
Nice work adding more info into articles about many gymnasts! It's great to see you! Have a great time! Cmapm 07:47, 2 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Musical Synopses

edit

Hello, again!
I've been working on synopses for 1776 and Big River and would love some feedback. I don't know if you know either of them, but they've always been two of my favorites: both Best Musical Tony Award winners in their respective years ('69 and '85, respectively), and they both have music that really captures the spirit of the show.
It looks like my Wikiquest is going to involve adding synopses to the musicals I enjoy. I'll add them to my userpage when I'm through and if you want to be my second pair of eyes making sure everything makes SENSE, that would be wonderful. It looks like you have your hands full with the gymnastics articles, but any time you might have would, of course, be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance! -- MusicMaker5376 19:15, 29 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Sure, I'd be happy to look over the synopses for you. I will admit I don't know either musical as well as I know Phantom, but I'll give them a look-see once they're done. I can also give more information on the Deaf West production of Big River, if it would be helpful. namaste, Mademoiselle Sabina 00:44, 1 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Wow — if you have any pertinent information to add to the Deaf West production, by all means, add it. I wish I had a chance to see it: its such a wonderful show and lends itself beautifully to such an adaptation.
Again, thanks for everything! — MusicMaker5376 01:40, 1 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
No worries at all! I looked over both articles...I didn't mess with the actual synopses too much but I fixed some of the formatting, added stuff about Deaf West and the B'way 1776, took out the HTML tags (they're not supposed to be used on Wiki from what I understand) and tried to organize a little. I am planning to see the 1776 film soon; when I do I will go back and take another look!
I hope my imput was useful. Please feel free to call on me anytime and I'll do my best to help. Namaste, Mademoiselle Sabina 03:27, 2 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks so much! I noticed you put up a spoiler tag for 1776. I left it off for much the same reason I left one off Godspell — we're not really spoiling anything! There are only, I think, two plot points that were historically inaccurate: Dr. Lyman Hall gets to the Congress in May of 1775 and Jefferson does return to Virginia. And, of course, the fact that NOBODY signed the Declaration on the Fourth. It doesn't really matter to me; if you feel it needs it, by all means, leave it there.
The movie of 1776 is only okay. As a film, it comes across a little cheesy, but there are some really great performances. William Daniels (well before Mr. Feeny!), Howard da Silva (who will always be Meyer Wolfsheim from The Great Gatsby in my book....), and the BEAUTIFUL Blythe Danner. She was extraordinarily well-cast; she was just stunning as Martha Jefferson. It's amazing how much drama they can get out of something to which we've been entirely desensitized. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it.
Thanks, again, for your help! I think my next project will be How to Succeed.... That article is a complete mess!
—  MusicMaker 04:59, 2 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
How to Succeed...now there's a challenge! I should see if there are any other musical articles that need rescuing, if I have time. If you need my help just yell (or type, I'll probably hear that faster!). :)
RE: the spoilers tag...I always add them into synopses just to err on the side of caution. I agree that putting a tag on a musical/film that's over thirty years old and documents known historical events is a bit silly in a way, but I figure if the tag's not there there's always a chance someone could come along whining that the article ruined their great surprise or something. Better safe than sorry. :) Have a good night! Namaste, Mademoiselle Sabina 05:18, 2 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
