XIBELANI/SHIBELANI DANCE 

Shangaan reside in the Limpopo province in northern South Africa, and former capital of the Gazankulu bantustan. Xibelani dance is the indigineous dance for shangaan women.This dance is a customy which an shangaan girl grow knowing that Xibelani dance is her tradional dance that for her to be proud for being shangaan must know how to dance it.This Xibelani dance is used in different occation such as Mkhinyavezo,ku chachula and even to acampany makhwaya and mchongolo. Xibelani dance is the way where by shngaan womens tied the african skirt(xibelani) around their waist and they shake their waist that known as xibelani dance.

Shangaans popular known as tsonga people speak Xitsonga as their first language. The Tsonga women dance Xibelani and the men enjoy Makhwaya. The Tsonga people also engage in a custom dance called Mchongolo. Xibelani is an African skirt. Xibelana is a skirt design to make your hips look bigger so the shaking can be apparent. The Tsonga people have their own distinct music where the Xibelani dance is extensively enjoyed and it became a custom for all Tsonga bands to have female Xibelana dancers.
