DK and the Italian magazine ROBOT edit

Hello, LH. This morning I was looking at a fan site http://www.fantascienza.net/robot/knight.html for the Italian magazine ROBOT http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robot_(rivista) and saw that Damon Knight's Stazione Aliene was published in Robot's first issue, April 1976 http://www.fantascienza.net/robot/01.html

It's interesting that none of the 3 DK stories in Robot have en.wiki articles. You seem to be the point man for DK, so please file this info somewhere in your mindspace.

And ROBOT might be a good candidate for inclusion in en.wiki, don't you think? NinetyNineFennelSeeds (talk) 17:34, 7 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I just read about the spoof of To Serve Man in the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror. Very funny. I've never seen the episode. NinetyNineFennelSeeds (talk) 14:04, 11 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I finally got around to reading The Red One. It's a strong story. I've been looking through Jack London material and am intrigued by his life + works. To start: "London's mother, a music teacher and spiritualist who claimed to CHANNEL the spirit of an Indian chief, became pregnant, presumably from her union with William Chaney, an ASTROLOGER." And The Star Rover: "Told in the first person by D. Standing, a university professor serving life imprisonment for murder. Prison officials try to break his spirit by means of a torture device -- a canvas jacket which can be tightly laced so as to compress the whole body, inducing angina. Standing discovers how to withstand the torture by entering a kind of trance state, in which he walks among the stars and experiences portions of past lives." Lastly, in Before Adam: "Red-Eyes, a fierce being that rules the Cave People."

I liked how you kept the plot description in The Red One very brief. IMHO, if one talks too much about a novel's plot + method on Wiki, the reader doesn't have the chance to meet the author's language + narration tricks in a spontaneous manner. I love all the links, etc. we do here on Wiki, but sometimes the actual literature can get lost in the shuffle. Any comments about that? Wiki Wednesdays with Rare Books, March! edit

  Goddess Barnstar
Thanks so much for participating in our Wiki Wednesdays with Rare Books event to contribute to pages about women! gwendy |   13:42, 21 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi Gwendy,
thanks for the Goddess Barnstar!!
I was wondering -- recently Wikipedia gave me access to the Wikipedia Library: https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/users/my_library/.
It would be nice if U of R could add itself to the list of institutions (currently there are 71) which make their press's books available here. It would be joining Cambridge Core, the Loeb classics library etc by doing this.
The motivation seems to be to encourage Wiki editors to cite the publications.
