Sholim's artwork edit

Given the anagram username, can I ask if you're Sholim, or are in contact with the artist? It's great to have Skinner Box Head artwork usable on Wikipedia, but has the artist explicitly released it under a CC-Attribution licence anywhere? This would mean that anybody in the world could reuse the image for any purpose, even commercially, so it'd be good to know for sure that Sholim is okay with this. (I appreciate it's scaled down, but could see this being reused for a banner advert or something.) --McGeddon (talk) 07:50, 22 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

hi, yes, I'm Sholim author and copyright owner for this work, thank you for your helpful advice (I'm new on Wikipedia and just learn how it works and of course I need help), I really do not want that someone use this work in commercial purposes and I would like to delete this file, but do not know how, also i would like to upload a new image but reduced with properly fill out the text of the copyright and to make sure that somebody would not use the image in commercial purposes. Is that possible and can you help me about this Loshmi33 (talk) 09:20, 22 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
No problem, thanks for clarifying. The image has now been removed from Wikimedia Commons.
I'm not sure there's a way that Wikipedia can usefully feature your work - although articles do include things like book covers and film posters by way of illustration, those pictures have to meet all ten criteria of WP:NFCCP. Your work falls at the first hurdle of "where no free equivalent is available, or could be created, that would serve the same encyclopedic purpose" for illustrating an article like GIF art, since it would be plausible for you or someone else to release a free image that could illustrate the concept of GIF art just as clearly.
One of the big deals of Wikipedia is that all its content should be free to reuse by as many people as possible (that a teacher somewhere can print out text and illustrations for a class, safe in the knowledge that they won't be infringing anyone's copyright and are not required to obtain further permissions), so we always tread very lightly around copyrighted work. --McGeddon (talk) 10:17, 22 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
ok, now i understand clearly, so I chose a new image (lower resolution than the previous image that we deleted) that I will upload and that image will be free and also be useful because it very clearly explains the concept of GIF art. I'll post it soon to GIF art page, and I'll make sure everything is filled correct about it, so that you will not have problems— Preceding unsigned comment added by Loshmi33 (talkcontribs) 14:09, 22 July 2015‎
Great, thanks for contributing some of your artwork to Wikipedia. It just needs one more step of you explicitly clarifying that you've released this image under a CC licence (since it's possible that the editor I'm talking to could be an overenthusiastic fan, or even a malicious rival) - you can either email permissions-commons@wikimedia.org from a recognisable email address confirming that File:Ars Longa by Sholim.gif is your work and you're happy to release it as CC-Attribution (ideally following the recommended format given here), or just put up a page on your website somewhere that confirms that this image is CC licenced, so that somebody at Commons can visit the site and check it. Thanks! --McGeddon (talk) 14:28, 22 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
