Thanks very much for the welcome edit

I have been feeling a bit lost, despite reading the help pages, but I am getting the hang of it. I do have a question. I added a comment to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Featured_picture_candidates/Warped_Galaxy But it, does not appear on the main page Featured_picture_candidates, but does appear when you click on the subpage link Warped Galaxy. Thanks for the tip. It worked! If I have more questions, I'll probably drop you a line. Thanks again. Hebb l 10:16, 10 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the reply. It was kind of a dumb question. I suppose I should have known it would be easy to find that way. At any rate, I appreciate your help. Best Wishes! Likeminded 16:03, 3 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for Welcoming me! I don't know how "active" I will ever be, but I am impressed by the way Wikipedia works and it seems like a really neat system. By the way, where can I find the history of Wikipedia -- like who "invented" it and whatnot?

Rove edit

Yeah, its a challenge isn't it.. I'll see if the vandals calm down after a few days, otherwise it may need to be protected again. Oh, and congrats on getting admin status :) -- Chuq 06:07, 2 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Re: Welcomes edit

Hey, thanks for the message. Umm... I haven't submit the request for the image yet. I tried to draw one on Photoshop but failed miserably. I found a few on Google, but I'm not very familiar with copyright violations and such, so I have no idea how to go about this. Help would be very much appreciated. :P I'm lost. Universist edit

I see that you just deleted the Userpage I created for User:Universist. I don't see what's wrong with creating a factual userpage for someone who participates as much as he does. (and I logged out first because I don't want him knowing who did it, but I've got over 2K edits myself).

Thanks for the welcome! edit

I'm looking for some advice, or something... edit

I've had a few conversations go off the rails here in the last few days. I'm well aware that it's quite hard to see you own faults, so I'd like some objective input on my behavior. I see from your contributions you're doing real work, so if you're too busy or don't want to, just say so. In the event you do have the time and desire: User:Aaron Brenneman/Feedback.

Yikes! I was hoping for some discreet input on how to behave. ^_^ While I think the VfD is poor, I'm over that aspect. I just want to hear if I'm out of line in how I talk to other editors... thanks though.

Thank you for the kind welcome edit

I probably won't get into this too seriously, but I enjoy fixing grammatical and spelling errors if I have a little bit of downtime. Jon 16:06, 3 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the considerate welcome edit

I greatly appreciated the welcome, it's very considerate of you to take the time, as it really adds to the community spirit that attracted me here. I doubt I'll ever be a massive contributor to Wikipedia, but I find the concept of the site fantastic, and I had to be a part of it in some small way. A place to collect the talents of anyone indiscriminately to create an encylopedia is incredible. Once again, many thanks. Marco 19:52, 3 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Australian TV edit

Thanks for the clarification. I'd still suggest that the categories should be organized in such a way that Category:Television presenters by nationality only contains one Australian category (eg. making one of the two only a subcategory of the other, or filing them both in a blanket category), because it's not really consistent with Wikipedia format to have two different categories for one country in a single "subject by country" supercategory. It's fine to distinguish between the two at another level of branching, but there should only be one Australian category filed in "Television presenters by nationality". Your very own Vandal Barn edit

I should have done this awhile ago, but i'm starting a tradition of giving new admins a barn instead of a barn star, both because they deserve a whole lot more for taking on the extra responsibility, but also because as Essjay is doing, you'll need a place to put your vandals! Therefore, I'd like to award you this barn, congrats. Karmafist 22:08, 6 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks !!! edit

Hi Longhair,

Thanks for the warm welcome. I wish to to become a useful contributor to Wikipedia. I have worked extensively in the North East India and have keen interest in Indian Vedic literature. I think I will be able to make worthwhile contributions to articles relating to these subjects. But first...a query - How can you change the title of an Article ? Syiem 09:30, 8 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Renaming an article edit

Thanks for your prompt response Longhair!

The article I am referring to is "Jowal" - an article on the District Headquarter of Jaintia Hills District in Meghalaya (India). This is a spelling error. The correct name of the town is "Jowai". Please refer the official website "http://meghalaya.nic.in/" and http://jaintia.nic.in/. Thanks a lot. Syiem 09:53, 8 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for welcoming me with useful links edit

I regularly add or modify entries since july, after a first whole article added earlier (Political parties of minorities) and I still think the project is worth spending hours of my leisure time. Most of my contributions are on the French version (fr:Utilisateur:Pylambert), a few on the English and Dutch (nl:Gebruiker:Pylambert) ones. Funny to see how some articles focus controversies, sometimes only in the English wiki (mostly about the Balkanic history), sometimes in both the French and English ones (islamophobia / fr:islamophobie and the articles related to the Belgian 'linguistic questions')... --Pylambert 18:31, 8 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Update For The New Admin edit

Oh, they give YOU the thanks ;-)... Thanks for the regional insight on the Gavin Shoesmith VfD and also, just wanted to give you a heads up on a Grandcru sockpuppet to block, Spirit of Grand Cru Karmafist 02:39, 11 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Not a problem, glad to help, i've heard GrandCru was bad news in the past. I contacted that newbie who was rude to you with some Wiki-policy on civility and talk pages as well. Let me know if there's more I can to do help. Karmafist 02:52, 11 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
Thanks bud, and yeah, you definately do need to use two hands, I couldn't find a user named "Oi" on his history there. ;-) I expect him to delete that too and then we'll just go back and he'll be hostile and we'll have to request for comment or arbitration or mediation or something. Alas, being in politics has hardened me to this kind of thing. I have an almost permanent smile and nod now. Karmafist 03:01, 11 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, he does have a right to silence if he wants it, I actually accidentally deleted my welcome message and figured it wasn't worth putting back. However, he does not have a write to call your kindness "spam". You're just doing your job as a good Wikipedian. Politics is kind of a disease I guess, but it makes me feel like I'm making a difference in a small way, kind of like Wikipedia...

Somebody reverted some vandalism on the Australia page while I was doing it, i'm gonna go say thanks. Later, Administrator! Karmafist 03:17, 11 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Image edit

Hi Longhair, as a matter of interest, why would you tag this image [1] as unverified only two minutes after I uploaded it? ;-) It seems a little hasty. I was in the process of writing up the sources for a few images I uploaded, and so it's now tagged and sourced. Cheers, SlimVirgin (talk) 04:42, August 11, 2005 (UTC)

POVs Affecting Wikipedia's Reliability edit

Hi Longhair! First of all, thank you for your warm welcome. Although I have registered only recently, I have been using Wikipedia for several months. I have developed a lot of respect for Wikipedia as an extremely reliable source of information. I have been relying on it extensively for my work. (I am a consultant with a large Indian company). However, I have recently seen that many (clearly biased)POV edits are adversely affecting the reliability of Wikipedia. How can we effectively deal with this to ensure that Wikipedia continues to be a reliable source of information - for ALL of us.

Cheers !!! RMehra 05:37, 11 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
