Brian Carney

The category Irish rugby league players should be a subcat of British rugby leeague players since players from Northern Ireland (not that I can think of any) are British. A cat can be a subcat without all of its content fitting in i.e. it does not matter that most Irish people aren't British. Carney then shouldn't also be under the British parent cat.

But there is a big problem with nationality and sport. People keep adding categories based on where somebody's parents came from. Maybe it's just me but Kris Radlinski isn't a Polish rugby league player (I made that one up but a lot of Aussie players are listed as Greek, Italian or Maltese etc).GordyB 09:02, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

An article should not be in both a parent category and the subcategory, Carney should either be a British player (parent cat) or an Irish one (subcat). As for the other bit I agree that if somebody has represented Greece that's fair enough but I've been deleting occasions when players have been put into categories of countries they weren't born in, didn't grow up in and haven't represented. I'll bring this up at the wiki project to see if we can get a consensus.GordyB 11:45, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Metric

No, it's nothing to do with 'looking orderly'. Units of measurement are based on the units most common within the country he plays. Template:Infobox rugby league biography So until he (or any other Australian player) plays in the UK, any height/weight stats are in metric. Where did you hear Cormacm as a nickname? If you need a citation for a nickname it may as well be deleted until a source can be found. The point is to have the most commonly known nickname for a player and in Ryan's case it is Bobcat. On the metric measurements, if 'neatness' is your reason for reverting my edit then to me the info-box looks 'neater' with metric first, so whose version of aesthetics do we follow? The Manual of Style

Hi Londo, I've noticed that you are often "correcting" my correct edits. I will assume that this is because you are unaware of the Wikipedia Manual of Style. As regards dashes there is a specific section (WP:MOS#En dashes) detailing exactly which type should be used in which circumstances. For your convenience I shall quote the relevent part;

En dashes (–) have four distinct roles.

1. To indicate disjunction. In this role there are two main applications.

• To convey the sense of “to”, particularly in ranges (“pp. 211–19”, “64–75%”, “the 1939–45 war”, “May–November”)

Club Numbers

Hey, I like your work on rugby league, but should NRL players have a "club number" listed? In European Super League, the players are assigned a number by the club that they wear all year no matter what position they play, but NRL players may wear a different number every week if they change position on the field. I am in favor of the club number system, but I don't think that we should create the false impression that it is used in NRL. What do you reckon? Rugbyhelp 16:38, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
