Thanks for your enquiry about Barret. I can't say that I am doing any research on Barret - many years ago I arranged the purchase of a Barret for the institution for which I worked, and ever since have tended to collect information about Barret. There is so much information now about Barret on the internet I just thought I would try and re-write the Wikipedia article. My interest was triggered by the splendid display of Barrets in the Harley Gallery at Welbeck and I think to make progress on Barret and his connections, it would be most rewarding to work through the Portland papers at the Nottingham University archives. It suddenly struck me how closely connected Barret was to mid 18th Whig Politics both in Ireland and particularly when he came to England.
