Note about punctuation

edit

Hi Lmcannon! It's me, Elysia! I noticed that in a few articles, you have moved punctuation to be enclosed within quotation marks. This is standard for what most Americans learn, but it's actually not convention on Wikipedia. Wikipedia style says that punctuation should be logical, meaning that you should "Include terminal punctuation within the quotation marks only if it was present in the original material, and otherwise place it after the closing quotation mark." Examples of using logical quotation style are:

  • Dory said, "Yes, I can read", which gave Marlin an idea.
  • Dory said, "Yes, I can read!", which gave Marlin an idea.

So when you see this in the future, you shouldn't change it, because it's actually correct. There's lots of little policies like this, so I thought I'd drop by and let you know! Thanks, Elysia (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:59, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
