I have recently visited the article on "The Buddha" and I have a problem with the use of the word "religion" in reference to Buddism. If one studies the history of the founder of this philosophy one finds that he managed to achieve a particular state of being, termed "enlightenment", and went about teaching others how to follow suit. While he may well have welcomed reverence, admiration and gratitude in others, I can find no indication that he had ever required worship from his followers. His teachings are focussed on methods to achieve enlightenment that can be used by other individuals and have nothing whatever to do with the devine. Nor did he ever present himself as a devine being nor that he had any connection with a devine being.
