Tracy Mattes

edit

"her athletic accomplishments, combined with her All-American good looks"? That's an ad, not an article.

Mattes was never in the Olympics; she is a minor businesswoman; she generally fails to establish notability. We can't have articles about everybody on a planet of six billion people; it's just not practical. I'm as patriotic as the next Wisconsinite; but that also means we have to hold up those standards of integrity which are part of the heritage passed on to us by people like "Fighting Bob", Frank Zeidler and Gaylord Nelson. Tracy just doesn't quite make it as notable enough for her own encyclopedia article. --Orange Mike | Talk 20:19, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'd suggest creating a draft article without all the fluffy sentiment and meaningless praise terms, but with solid citations to reliable sources; sandboxes are easy to create, and I'd be glad to go over the draft and offer some sincere (if frank) criticism. Is she a member of the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame? That's the kind of solid data we need. --Orange Mike | Talk 00:34, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
I created a new sandbox, User:Librarybookers/Tracy Mattes. It's still pretty weak, full of fluff like "Special Representative to the United Nations" (which is a semi-meaningless honorary title, since upon closer examination she's actually SR to the UN Something-or-other Committee); and of whom or what is she "Special Representative" anyway: Monaco or ????. I'm afraid you're still gonna have to do a lot of work here; I don't know whether she qualifies under WP:ATHLETE, for example. --Orange Mike | Talk 22:39, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --Orange Mike | Talk 00:34, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
