Welcome!

Hello, Legion NSW President 2023, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website, I have blocked this account from editing. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable, regardless of the username that you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid or compensated in any way, you must disclose who is paying you to edit here.

Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change of your current account here. The new username that you choose must represent you as an individual person, and it must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username on this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken or in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it also identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Appeals: If your username does not represent a group, organization, website, or other entity described above, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

    Hello Drmies and Cabayl,
I need assistance with my account. My account was blocked because of the username and my edits of a page that I researched for dozens of hours was reverted to incorrect information ("Australian Legion of Ex-Servicemen and Women").
Firstly, I am still blocked even though I changed my username from "Legion NSW President 2023" to my new personalised username "Gary B Australia" as you guys requested. Can you please help me get my account unblocked now?
Secondly, I have thankfully found a draft version of my edits on the system, however all of my links to my formal references and image scans of actual historic documents (minute books and public newspapers from the Australian National Archives) have disappeared. Are you able to see my reference links and lost images and, if so, can you send them to me?
I am very happy to engage with whoever I need to in order to have the history of the Legion recorded properly, however my comments in the discussion window went ignored and my significant, referenced research was deleted. The page has now reverted to confused information on a different organisation.
I hope you will assist me.

Please see what it reads in your block log: "user also needs to disclose their COI, esp. if they get a new user name". Drmies (talk) 13:28, 1 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I read that comment about COI. I do not have any conflict of interest whatsoever. It serves me no benefit to record the history other than I promised people in the Legion and RSL that I would when we merged. Certainly no conflicted interests. If you want me to annotate that I was the final President and had access to all of the formal records back to 1942 which I referenced, then just tell me where to declare it and I will. The information at the moment is completely wrong and I provided newspaper references from online National Archives to prove it. Clearly I am now being held to a higher burden of proof than prior authors yiu have reverted to, despite being the most qualified person with the best access to information in the world... Nonetheless, tell me what to "declare" and I'll do it. I just want finish it.

Your understanding of conflict of interest does not match Wikipedia's. We do not restrict it to financial COI. "I was the final President" is well within Wikipedia's usage.
Wikipedia's policy on verifiability means that our readers need to be able to verify claims for themselves. They do not have "access to all of the formal records back to 1942". You need to cite reliable, independent sources which they can verify.
"despite being the most qualified person with the best access to information in the world"... the reliability comes from the sources you cite, not who you are.
Everything you wrote is still there in the article's history. - Cabayi (talk) 16:52, 5 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
