Greetings edit

I have seen you have been doing a lot of work on articles concerned with Islam. I thought I would introduce myself. I've been doing a lot of work on the articles about the Guantanamo captives, and related issues.

I get the occasional challenge that my contributions are POV or "anti-American". When I get this kind of challenge, I ask my correspondent to be specific about what raised their concern. Usually they can't cite a specific passage.

If you work on the same articles as I do, and do your best to comply with NPOV, you may find yourself getting the same kind of challenge. If you do, and you would like to talk about it, don't hesitate to leave me a note on my talk page.

Cheers! — Geo Swan 19:48, 24 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I'm trying to complete the list of foreign Mujahideen commanders fighting in Chechnya. Today I will probably add Muhannad (al-Urduni's successor), unfortunately there is little known about him so it will most likely be a very short article. If you find the al-Urduni video maybe you can add it to the external links. Greetings! ForrestSjap 07:25, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Abu Ayyub al-Masri edits edit

Hi there. I confess that I do not know very much about the subject of this article, and so I do not feel qualified to weight in on any editorial debate at this point. My best advice would be to continue making changes to the article that are well-sourced and verifiable. If there is a point of contention with another editor, then make sure you explain your edits clearly in your edit summaries to avoid confusion, and describe the reasoning for your edits in some detail on the article's talk page. The idea is to reach a consensus with the other editor(s), on what should be included in the article. If any other users are being directly disruptive, feel free to let me know, but at this point I don't see that happening. Cheers. --PeruvianLlama(spit) 12:46, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ansar al-Islam edit

Hi, thanks for keeping a lookout for copyvio. In cases of long-running pages, clear copyvio is most likely the result of a recent edit. I have simply reverted some recent anon edits rather than deleting the article. Thanks, BanyanTree 10:43, 23 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikiproject:Terrorism edit

Greetings,

I was hoping I could get some input from you, about the proposed mergerof Wikipedia:WikiProject Terrorism and counter-terrorism with Wikiproject:Terrorism. It seems there's a lot of overlap between the two projects, and if we spent a few days merging the lists of articles, sharing ideas and collaborating on improving the same articles which both projects are focused on improving...we could really make some headway. Whether you're in favour, or against, the idea of a merger - I'd appreciate some feedback regardless. Much thanks. Sherurcij (Speaker for the Dead) 21:42, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Abu jihad al masri 1.GIF} edit

Thank you for uploading Image:Abu jihad al masri 1.GIF. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. style issues edit

Hello. You'll notice in one of your new articles, I changed this:

If we let q=1,

to this:

If we let q = 1,

In non-TeX mathematical notation, variables should be in italics, but digits, punctuation, etc. should not, and a space should precede and follow "=", "+", etc. This matches TeX style. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (mathematics). Michael Hardy (talk) 18:53, 16 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Quadratic reciprocity edit

Your article on the Landsberg–Schaar relation says that a special case of it is a Gauss sum, and that QR can be deduced from it. QR can be proved using Gauss sums; is the proof using the LH identity something else?

File source problem with File:WadihElHage.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:WadihElHage.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
