The Province that we learned about is New Brunswick, but in the 1860's.

Population: the total population was about 252,000 people, and the largest city was by population in 1861 was St.John with 28,805.

Location: New Brunswick shared a border with the US. New Brunswick was below Canada East. New Brunswick had a connection with Nova Scotia, Canada East and the State Maine.

Economy: In the woods of New Brunswick, thousands of lumberjacks cut trees and float them down the rivers to the mills, logs and then cut into planks and exported to all parts of the world.

Transpotation: Railways are important to the colony so they can trade with other markets such as Canada to the west and Nova Socita to the east, when they connect St.John and Montreal through the St.John River Valley.

Political Situation: Politics in New Brunswick was usually located in St.John. Men were dressed with their hats tilted at an angle of 45 degrees on the back of their heads, smoking cigars.Premier Tilly of New Brunswick arranges to have some members of Parliament and business people from Canada to visit his province. The visit convinces Maritimes that Canadians are not foreign as they supposed. Both Canadians and Maritimes have many in common; they speak the same languages ,(english and french), fly the same flag, and share many of the same laws and customs.

Defence: New Brunswick shares a long border with the Us. In the event of war the colony will have difficulty defending this border. Americans might invade New brunswick to punish Britian for its part in the American Civil War
