I have found Morley's Masonic records. They may not be that relevant to the Wikipedia article. It seems like most of the protestant archaeologists here in Santa Fe in the first half of the century were Masons, and also in the Scottish Rite. Edgar Hewett, Jesse Nusbaum, et al. It was a small town, and there were not that many social integrating mechanisms outside the Catholic Church. Kvillela (talk) 00:39, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
Hi Kvillela, thanks for your kind words left on my usertalk page on this article. At the time I wrote it I didn't have access to sources detailing his personal life, so if you know of some then there may be some interesting info that could be added to the article. Unfortunately I have not heard back from Jimjomac, so don't know whether or not he had any more success in tracking down the family tree. I should probably try and email him again.
I'm curious (but you don't have to answer if you don't wish to, anonymity around here is quite OK): you wouldn't happen to be Khristaan Villela of CSF, by any chance? If so, your paper "Morley Hires Tatiana Proskouriakoff" published in the PARI Journal was one of the sources I relied upon in writing the article, and I found it most useful. Do you have other biog pieces on Morley published somewhere that might be readily obtainable? One of these days I should revisit the article and beef up the citations and references. Hey thanks Kvillela. Those additions look good! No real urgency to find a cite for his burial place, it wld be a nice-to-have for completeness but as it's a minor and presumably uncontroversial matter I think it could wait if it had to.
Think it shld be OK to have a passing mention of his masonic associations in the article, as just another piece of the overall biog.
Since we last chatted I'd expanded a little bit more in his early life and studies section, from some other material I came by. Would like to do a little more on his early work at the Pueblo sites, significant if for no other reason than the fieldwork was apparently the first under auspices of the newly-formed SAA org.
I guess the new edn of Gale's encyclopedia with your chapter on Morley in it, has come out by now, at least I can see it in OCLC catalogues. Don't spose you'd have your entry contrib reproduced online anywheres?
Yes, I recall discussing with those Morley relatives, I believe Jimjomac (talk · contribs) was one of them who signed on a wikipedia account and we had some exchanges in the past. They were going to do some more genealogical digging around, wonder if they came up w anything new...
