Images and Wikimedia Commons

Hi,

I noticed that you have added images to the English Wikipedia. All free images should be added to Wikimedia Commons so that they are available for all sister projects in Wikipedia, for example the Finnish Wikipedia. By adding the images to Commons and placing them in suitable categories will also make sure that they don't "disappear" when someone takes away the image from an article. If someone now removes one of your images from an article then it will be difficult to find it again. Then it can only be found either by studying the version history of the article or by studying your contributions to the English Wikipedia.

If we assume that you have taken an image about a building in Turku, added it to commons and placed it in Category: Buildings in Turku then it will be found here commons:Category:Buildings in Turku also in future. The images that you already have added here can be transferred to commons. If you don't know how to do this you can simply add the template: {{tocommons}} to your images and someone will transfer them to Commons. Huomasin että olet lisäillyt kuvia tänne englanninkieliseen Wikipediaan. Kuvat(kaikki vapaasti levitettävät) olisi parasta lisätä Wikimedia Commonsiin, jotta ne olisivat kaikkien Wikipedian sisarprojektien käytössä, kuten esim. suomenkielisen Wikipedian käytössä. Lisäämällä kuvat Commonssiin ja antamalla niille sopivat luokat varmistat myös että kuvasi eivät "katoa" mihinkään. Jos joku nyt poistaa en-Wikipediaan lisäämäsi kuvan jostain artikkelista niin se käytännössä "katoaa" ja sen voi löytää uudestaan vain "vahingossa" tutkimalla joko muokkaushistoriaasi tai kyseisen artikkelin muokkaushistoriaa.

Jos oletetaan että olet ottanut kuvan jostain turkulaisesta rakennuksesta, lisännyt sen Commonsiin ja antanut sille luokan: Buildings in Turku niin se löytyy vastedes täältä: commons:Category:Buildings in Turku. Jo lisäämäsi kuvat voidaan siirtää Commonssiin. Jos et tiedä miten tämä tehdään niin voit lisätä seuraavan mallineen kuvaasi: {{tocommons}}, niin joku siirtää sen Commonsiin.
