User talk:Killing sparrows/Dhshah
Hi there DhShah,
I did a review of your edit history, user page and talk page so that I can get to know a little about you and your interests. Here are some comments...
You really are doing a good job here! You almost always use an edit summary when you edit, something that most new users forget to do! You remember to sign your entries on talk pages, and most importantly you are polite and civil when talking to other users, even when you disagree with them. Very important!
I notice that an article you were interested in, Edeskonline, was deleted. I have to say that without looking at the references or the article (since it was deleted I can't see it) that I think the deletion was perhaps not justified, or at least premature. The person who closed the AfD should have relisted it since there were only 2 deletes and several keeps, even if the keeps were new accounts. If you have kept a copy of the article I would like to see it, perhaps I can suggest some ways to get the article reinstated.
I also see that you have an interest in India. I have spent much of the last four years in Nepal and have travelled a little in India. It is a magnificent country, although I find Nepal to be more peaceful and quiet!
I really have nothing to say as far as criticism after reviewing your work here and would be glad to answer any questions you have about AfD's and vandal fighting. I have created a special talk page for us to use here. If you would like, you can tell me a little about yourself and ask any questions that you have on that page. I will put a copy of this edit review there also. You can also go to this page and follow the links to my other adoptee's pages and see their questions and my answers. I am on the US west coast (GMT-8) and am on Wikipediaquite often during the day and late at night.
Glad to be able to give you a hand! killing sparrows (chirp!) 03:51, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Hi Killing Sparrows,
Thanks for your encouraging words. I have been tied up since last few days due to an unfortunate demise in the family, and hence I have not been able to login often to wikipedia. Hence this delayed reply to you. I may not be very regular on wikipedia for the remainder of this month as well due to the various ceremonies.
I am staying in Bangalore, the Silicon Valley of India (GMT+5.30). Nice to know about your interest in my country. There are lots of spots in India which are equally peaceful and quiet as Nepal. For example, Darjeeling, Gangtok in the North, KodaiKanal, Coorg, Ooti in the South are nice hill stations where you can enjoy nature in its true form.
Regarding EDeskonline article, I agree with you that the deletion was not fully justifiable. I tried to put forth my views in a deletion review as well without any success. Perhaps my inexperience with wikipedia acted as a weakness in putting forth my arguments more strongly and effectively. I will try to search if I have a copy of the article. Now I realise that I should always keep a copy of the articles which I create.

I see a suggestbot entry on your user page. I think this is a cool tool. How can I get suggestbot to suggest articles to me as well. Please guide.

Sincere condolences
editHello Dhshah,
Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss you have suffered and my extension of sympathy to you and your family members. I pray for the peace of the soul of your departed loved one.
As regards the SuggestBot, you can go to this page and add your name to the bottom of the list by clicking 'edit' and then typing User:Dhshah, (don't forget the double brackets that make your name a wikilink), at the bottom of the list. The SuggestBot uses your edit history to suggest articles that you may have an interest in, you can then work on those articles if you wish, it is not required.
The work that I was doing in Nepal is mostly finished and I am thinking of spending the next few years in some part of Africa. I am doing some research now to find a place where my talents are needed and also a place that would be safe to work. Americans have become targets in many Muslim countries so that while I am no great supporter of many of the policies of the US and strive to use my talents to improve life for people in developing countries, I have to consider whether I can be effective and also safe. I will surely return to Nepal at some point in the future and when I do I hope to visit Darjeeling. I did some research on the area after reading your message and it sounds quite pleasant.
Again, my condolences, --killing sparrows (chirp!) 16:37, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- I have added my name to suggestbot as explained. Thank you. As a Hindu, I can totally understand your concerns with regards to working in Muslim countries. Our country has also been the target of religious extremism since more than 50 years now. I wish you luck in the noble things which you seem to be doing for people in developing countries.

re: Edeskonline
editHi there, I have requested that the article by userfied to me. This means that it would become recreated as User:Killing sparrows/Edeskonline, a subpage of my userpage. The request may take a few days. After that happens we can look at the article and see what can be done to improve it. --killing sparrows (chirp!) 17:08, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you so much. Please do teach me how to put such requests. Dhshah 19:18, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, I should have shown you this instead of just doing it myself. I am supposed to be teaching! I knew that this was possible but had never done it so I went to the page WP:DRV which is for the review of deleted articles. This was just a guess but it was a correct guess as the second paragraph after the intro, entitled Content review explains the procedure. You can go to that page and see the request I have made and the instructions. Since I have made the request already you should not make another request for the same page. After the page is made a subpage to me, we can move it to being a subpage of your userpage with the move tab at the top of the screen. If this is not clear I can explain it at that time.
- You can also create subpages of your userpage if you like...
- To create a User subpage:
- Edit your user page and add a link like User:USERNAME/name of subpage or just /name of subpage and save the page.
- Then click on the new link; the text box that appears will allow you to edit the new subpage.
- Put whatever you wanted to add there.
- You can also do this by simply typing User:Dhshah/Example (replacing 'example' with the name you wish) in the search box and click 'go'. This will take you to a page that says the requested page does not exist and offers you the option to create this page. Click that link and type in the edit bax and then hit save page and the page is created. You can read the rules, guidelines and various other info about subpages at WP:SP.
- Most times when you ask a question the answer will involve a reference to a Wikipedia shortcut, like the WP:SP link above. I urge you to read these pages, most are fairly short and clear and will do much to help you learn the details of Wikipedia. --killing sparrows (chirp!) 21:40, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the instructions. I have moved the Edeskonline page to User:Dhshah/Edeskonline. Please have a look and let me know how I can improve this article. Dhshah 13:59, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
Reverting others revert decisions
editI was going through my watchlist and found that SchmuckyTheCat has reverted an edit done by someone called Sbsreddy. Sbsreddy had added one link to the page Service Tax (India). After viewing that link, I find that link to be very relevant to the topic. To confirm that Sbsreddy is not adding the same link on multiple pages, I checked Sbsreddy's contributions. I found that he had added many relevant links to Special Economic Zone. The links are of many government sites as well as popular private sites. Again SchmuckyTheCat has reverted all these edits on this page as well. I dont think Sbsreddy is a vandal or trying to advertise any site. What do you suggest I should do. Should I revert the revert done by SchmuckyTheCat? Because according to me, rather than reverting Sbsreddy's changes, we should guide Sbsreddy to add the links in the appropriate section and name the links appropriately. Pls. guide. Dhshah 19:47, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- Here is what I would do in this situation...I would first look at the actual websites that were linked and compare them with the guidelines listed at WP:EL, the guideline page for external links. This page gives a list of reasons both for and against adding links to an article.
- Examine each link in the context of the article and see if it is a good and needed link.
- I would then look at SchmuckyTheCat's user page and talk page to get a feeling for the person who deleted the links. Does STC seem to be working in good faith? Is STC a user who is easy to work with?
- If I still think the link is a useful addition to the article I would leave a note on STC's talk page explaining why I thought the link was a good one and wait for a response.
- If there is a negative response and you still feel that the link is useful you can go to the article's talk page, post the link, and ask if other editors think the link is a good addition to the article.
- External links are very closely monitored and some users are very aggressive about removing them. Part of the problem here is that Sbsreddy is a user whose only edits are adding the links to several articles and adding the same link to several pages, this is a red flag for WP:SPAM. Reading the WP:SPAM link section entitled, 'How not to be a spammer', especially #5 on this list may explain why these links were deleted. I have not looked at the links in detail to see if they are useful, I will let you do that. If any of this is not clear or you have questions as you go through the process, let me know. Good Luck!--killing sparrows (chirp!) 22:36, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- Understood. I will read through the suggested pages. Also I will carefully go through the external links which were added. Dhshah 13:59, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
