Are you the same person as Milesaurus?

edit

Hi Kerryjohnson - could you confirm, in the interest of transparency and adherence to Wikipedia's policy on the use of multiple accounts, whether you're the same person as Milesaurus (talk · contribs)? There's no problem if you are, but it would really help if you'd declare as much. And, if you're not, it would help if you'd tell us, so as to allay our suspicions. Hello. Yes, I am Kerry G. Johnson. I'm not Milesaurus, BUT I know him. He informed me of what was happening with his Harambee Hills article. I reget that my webcomic title did not meet your Wikipedia standards. He told me he was a fan and wanted to support my efforts. especially after I told him about all the other webcomic entries on your site. Additionally, Harambee Hills does have a entry on Comixpedia AND a web site.

And about the edits to my own Kerry G. Johnson entry. I believe he also originally started that about 2 years ago. Though, I do and edit or clarify the content if I see any mistakes or for updating. It's not an actual autobiography, because I do have an online presence.

One last note, as Milesuarus, mentioned. I am an award-winning cartoonist and caricaturist. I do believe this is notable, because there are not many African-American professional cartoonist and caricaturist in our industry. Not to mention, cartoonist who were born in Nashville. Here are true to life examples: I have been contacted often by aspiring minority artists/cartoonists looking for source material for projects or book reports. So in closing, I am not a novice in this industry, my accolades, illustrated books and awards have proven that.

Perhaps you can also rethink Milesauarus Harambee Hills entry?

Sincerely,

Kerryjohnson

Hi Mr. Johnson - thanks very much for your response. To address your concerns about notability, at Wikipedia notability is determined by the amount of coverage by reliable third party sources. Have either you or your comic ever been written up in newspapers, magazines, etc.? Sarcasticidealist (talk) 18:43, 30 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

With all due respect...

edit

Dear Sarcasticidealist: With all due respect, I really did not want to get dragged into this issue between Milesaurus and Wikipedia, but with all due respect, I do understand you administrator authority and understand your concerns. I myself have worked in the field of journalism at the Columbus Dispatch, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the Nashville Tennessean and until 2 years ago, I worked at the Baltimore Sun newspaper. So I can applaud a detail-oriented news editor.

I have worked as a graphic artist, reporter, graphic reporter, Metro Editor, Graphics Director and Creative Director. Additionally, my illustrations and cartoons have won international awards through several well-respected art and journalism organizations. Please see my Kerry G. Johnson for details of SOME the awards.

Yes, I have been covered in newspapers and even a few local magazines have written about my achievements. The problem, many of the articles are not electronic. Yet, I do have hard copies of a few of the write-ups. Also, you know as well as I do. You DON'T have to be in newsprint to be notable. I also have written and illustrated 3 children's books. So in closing, I have had a Wikipedia page for almost 3 years now, and other than a few minor edits, the content is useful and helpful for aspiring cartoonist and illustrators.

Also, FYI here's a comparable article of a counterpart: Keith Knight (another African-American cartoonist)

And I also will be publishing Harambee Hills in newspapers on the East Coast in August.

Sincerely and Good Luck! Kerry G. Johnson

Hi Kerry (if I may so-address you - and if I may, feel free to reciprocate with "Steve") - I really am sorry to drag you into a dispute you don't want any part of. If you have been written up in newspapers and magazines and have the hard copies of those, that's quite satisfactory - no need for electronic media. It would help greatly if you'd put those writeups in the article as references. As for your suggestion that you don't have to be in newsprint to be notable..."notability" is a subjective concept with no universal definition. On Wikipedia, we use a definition that's based on whether other people have seen fit to cover a subject. In that regard, you do have to be in newsprint - or in books or on reliable websites or something - to be notable for Wikipedia purposes. Cheers, Sarcasticidealist (talk) 22:37, 30 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Okay, give me a few days

edit

Okay, give me a few days to gather the info. I will update the reference content in the next few days. Who is Steve, do you mean Milesaurus? Also, after I add the third-party reference information, can the administrator please remove the "tags"? talk) 07:30, 31 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've removed the tags, because I'm quite satisfied with the referencing you've been providing. If you get a chance, it would be best if you could insert footnotes sourcing the statements made in each article, which is done by putting the following after a given statement:
<ref>Name of reference here</ref><nowiki> :So, for example, you might see this: "He was born in Nashville, Tennessee on September 30, 1966.<nowiki><ref>''Top 30 Under 30: Kerry G. Johnson, Urban Profiles'' magazine, (May 1989)</ref>" That helps assure us that each statement in the article is backed up by a source, which allows us to be more confident in the article's content. But still, I think you've addressed the notability issue quite satisfactorily; good work, and I'm sorry if we got off on the wrong foot. Oh, and I'm Steve - I was just saying that if I could call you Kerry you could call me Steve. Sarcasticidealist (talk) 20:52, 31 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
