Thanks for getting in touch. These 2 articles are great. I'm really looking forward to French Texas. I had never read it, I just found it after I finished Ima Hogg by search the 's for Texas related articles. My wife is a middle school French teacher and she may be able to work it into her class. It is also especially interesting to me because I lived in the town of Matagorda for 2 years, which is, of course, near the La Belle (ship) excavation. Fascinating stuff... and fun to imagine how long Europeans had been in that particular, little part of Texas.

I see that you are of Acadian descent. We traveled to Lafayette last year ostensibly to get teaching materials for my wife's classroom. We really enjoyed learning about the Acadian culture.

One thing I'm wondering about as I begin recording French Texas... regarding the pronunciation of the French names & words in the article; is there a guide as to where I should lean in the pronunciation? That is, should I read them as French and pronounce them with 'French' pronunciation, or should I 'anglicize' them? KenKuhl (talk) 13:29, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

When I read it to myself I use the French pronunciation for names of people. The only thing I am unsure of is whether the fort itself is generally pronounced (within Texas) as "Loo-ee" or "Lewis" (I can't remember what my Texas history teacher used all those years ago...).
