Cocaine Blues

edit

It is a funny song, just not "cute-funny" the way "A Boy Named Sue" is; it's more like "dark-funny", as with "25 Minutes to Go". Explain your viewpoint before I put it back. Wahkeenah 12:13, 27 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

"I took a shot of cocaine and I shot my woman down"? "I can't believe the day I shot that bad bitch down"? Sorry, I don't buy that as being a "funny" song, even if the inmates cheered at those lines. Remember that JC was having his own pill and booze problems when he sang this one at Folsom (see Cash his autobiography), so I think it was meant to be a warning to the inmates. Note how he emphasizes the last line "lay off that whiskey and let that cocaine be." I guess it has a lot to do with what one considers to be "funny" -- and "25 Minutes to Go" is the definition of "gallows humor" -- but I would reckon there would be enough dissention among wikipedia readers and JC fans that I would avoid the categorization.
