this article makes me think. I am definitely a page-view snob. But I do see how losing an article loses people coming in. Need to think about your views.
I would be interested in more research on why and how much newbies want to do new articles (is there a wiki study or such)? And is there any correlation of the TYPE of new editor with eventual success? For instance are people who want to do new articles less likely to be good editors than those who prefer to start by fixing things (and we need to deconfound the negative feedback inherent in the new articles).
Plus I remember having a page I did get nommed for deletion and all that. and the ARS saved it. Really kind of touched me and showed me the power of the Wiki and how people could do better google searches than I could!

P.s. I am still sort of a little bit of a newbie. I mean I have a lot of edits in now. But I got permabanned for a couple years and have taken a lot of voluntary bannings.
