Hi, Jfang86, Welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read about the Five pillars of Wikipedia and simplified ruleset. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ , plus if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions)! There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will be by to help you shortly.

Additional tips edit

Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the 'pedia!

  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Five will get you the datestamp only.
  • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
  • If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.

Hi edit

Welcome, nice job so far, way to jump in, all that stuff that can't be said enough ;-)

One thing for future reference; it's best to use the "move" button at the top of each page rather than 'mirror' an old one. It automatically sets up the redirect, let's you move the talk page, causes watchlists to follow, and moves the history. Basically, it does a lot of technical things that a simple copy or cut and paste can't. Don't worry about it, every first-timer makes that same mistake (yeah, me too), just wanted to let you know. Again, I've been very impressed with your contributions so far. CovenantD 19:35, 28 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Copy and paste moves edit

Please don't copy and paste text for moves. The histories need to be saved for copyright purposes. If you want to move something, use the "Move" button on the top of the screen. Cheers!--Toffile 19:37, 28 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Actually, if you just started editing today, you probably don't have that button yet. --Toffile 19:38, 28 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I've fixed this up. For procedures on how to move a page, see WP:MOVE. The problem with a copy and paste move is that it invalidates the GFDL. Welcome to WIkipedia, by the way.Steve block Talk 20:12, 28 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks everyone for this message -- I'm sorry if this caused any major inconveniences. There seems to be a pretty steep learning curve for Wikipedia that I didn't anticipate. Thanks everyone for your patience and help in correcting my mistake! --Jfang86 20:14, 28 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

It's not a problem. There's just stuff here that would go against what one might consider their intuition.--Toffile 20:18, 28 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for Image:Chopchop.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Chopchop.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 04:05, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Ww blackcaricature.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Ww blackcaricature.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 03:17, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
