Jesus H. Lincoln
anti pope
editHi.
You might be aware that there has been some contention around the use of userboxes. There has also been a new speedy deletion criterion added with regard to templates.
A box you are using, Template:User Antipope was recently tagged as such. I've removed the tag, but would ask that you {{subst:}} the template. You may also wish to contribute to Wikipedia:WikiProject Userboxes if you are not already.

Inappropriate username?
editNot that I'm bothered about your choice, but I just thought I'd mention Wikipedia:Username#Inappropriate_usernames which includes in its list:
- "Usernames of religious figures such as "God", "Jehovah", "Buddha", or "Allah", which may offend other people's beliefs. Usernames partly comprised of these terms are not necessarily prohibited but may be subject to review."
So you might want to consider Wikipedia:Changing username or the other steps it suggests before someone sees your username and finds it offensive. Personally, I think that God has better things to worry about, but God doesn't set Wikipedia rules! Best wishes, Bencherlite 22:11, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
My response
editJesus H. Lincoln is a username I originally started using after hearing "Jesus Lincoln" being mentioned on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart as the only more Republican person than Ronald Reagan. I use it as sort of a symbol for my disdain for that particular party, and not for religious reasons. I've used it for a while now, with no real problems thus far.
However, if anybody does take major issue with my handle, I could just change it. However, I would prefer to have feedback beforehand from somebody who is actually offended by it on religious grounds first.
I do understand your concern, however, and will be keen to rectify any problems with it that may arise should I receive further complaints.
Your You Tube Videos
editAs you may be aware, YouTube has recently come in for criticism over it's handling of copyrighted works.
I note that you have a number of potentially interesting videos on You Tube that you link to from your user page.
Instead of supporting troubled proprietary sites, Why not support projects that value creative talent and assist in ensuring that a viewing public can enjoy and expand upon it?
Wikimedia Commons is one project that needs creative content (under licensing that lets people enjoy and expand upon it).
It would be much appreciated if you could see if you would consider migrating videos for which you are the copyright owner to 'open' formats like Ogg Theora, and moving them from 'failed' proprietary sites like YouTube to community sites like Wikimedia Commons, under an appropriate license. My response
editI'm a big fan of open source and Wikimedia Commons, and all my works are under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 US license. So far I've uploaded them to Youtube simply because of its popularity and ubiquity, but I might just re-encode my videos to Ogg Theora (I've always thought xiph.org codecs were superior to proprietary ones anyway) and upload copies in the near future.
