How's the update? stars straight and switched bg to olive #808000? Jeff Dahl (Talkcontribs) 05:09, 9 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Great! I know the badge isn't strictly faithful to the the arms, but is it possible to color match the green to Coat of arms of Palestine?
OK, I matched the red and green to the coat of arms. In the absence of such references I normally use a color-picking tool in inkscape that averages the color of a bitmap selection. Jeff Dahl (Talkcontribs) 06:25, 9 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Perfect! You do such great work! I've been admiring the wings at the top, there is a similar design in Zoroastrianism, I wonder how much religious interchange there was back in the day... Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 06:37, 9 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
That is way better! Can File:1999tunisiagg.jpg also be made clean thus? File:World Scout Emblem inverse.svg can be used for the rope, and File:WAGGGS.svg for the trefoil. (I just uploaded File:Les Guides Tunisiens.gif which shows the text at the bottom)Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 04:33, 11 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm so glad I've asked! You do stunning work! Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 06:17, 11 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Just stunning! What do you do for a living? If it is not graphic arts, you're being wasted! :) Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 06:02, 10 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks very much. I'm a 3rd year grad student in medicinal chemistry, but our building has been shut down for the last 3 weeks in the wake of a lab fire on the floor below us, so I've been sitting around at home for a while. I only started drawing a few months ago when I discovered Inkscape; I wish I had it ten years ago! Jeff Dahl (Talkcontribs) 06:19, 10 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
It looks like it says واغذوا (not a word I recognize, and not in my dictionary) but I just can't quite tell. I've asked User:Muhammad Mahdi Karim to check it out. Jeff Dahl (Talkcontribs) 07:37, 13 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

This is incredible, thank you! Let me ask you, there is a naysayer at the Mahdi Scouts article that says

I would trust your translation more than a biased source, what does it say? Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 06:17, 14 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

To get the original text, I went to their homepage here, and opened the clock on the left side of the screen, which gives an unambiguous copy of the text, which says وأطيعوا. Putting this into google translate confirms what the terrorism center article says, which is that this means "obey".

This is beautiful! Would you make the background transparent instead of grey? Thanks!
I'll upload a replacement; I'm not sure whether it would look better, but if it doesn't you can always restore the old version. Jeff Dahl (Talkcontribs) 07:04, 14 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
For some reason, when I open the article, it still shows grey. Maybe I've "lost it". Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 07:28, 14 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I can see the text on the bottom says سودان (Sudan) but I can't make out the text on the top. I can't seem to find any kind of official website or other version of the badge in order to try to figure out what it says. Jeff Dahl (Talkcontribs) 21:57, 17 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Can you do it without the top text? The version I have from the official book looks crude and hand drawn. :( Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 00:34, 18 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Does it look anything like the text here? File:Sudan Boy Scouts Association.jpg? Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 00:35, 18 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
That one says كن مستعداً (be prepared), which is not a match. I can make a version without the top text, but would be nice to have a better original. Jeff Dahl (Talkcontribs) 01:57, 18 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I agree, and as I say that is the official version from the international office. Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 02:06, 18 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Uploaded new version of File:Sudan Girl Guides Association.png; can figure out the text later, I guess. Jeff Dahl (Talkcontribs) 03:23, 18 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • File:IraqScoutsUnt.jpg *الجمهورية العراقية | استعد color similar to File:Iraf.jpg *Text too small. جمهورية العراق for the words up, but can't get the text below. My guess would be the same as the one directly above.
Mine just stopped choking, it is beautiful work, however it is not in color, similar to Iraf.jpg. The best I could suggest is, make a negative image (name it as you wish, keep IraqScoutsUnt1.png separate just in case), and add the red from Iraf.jpg, maybe use the gold as a border around the Rub el Hizb shape. The goal is to have one image that captures all qualities of the badge, rather than two similar ones, one crisp, the other in color. Thanks! Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 04:49, 2 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I wasn't paying attention and I didn't realize there was a color version. I've uploaded a new image over the old; the old version is still available in the file history and there won't be any trouble with the copyright. Let me know if there should be any more modifications. Jeff Dahl (Talkcontribs) 05:21, 2 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Iraq is stunning, absolutely fantastic, thank you! The image in the middle seems to differ between the logos, where did you find a clear center? Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 18:16, 2 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
The stele in the middle looks like the famous Stele of Hammurabi. I took a b/w image of it and did some aggressive processing in photoshop to simplify it. Then, I imported it into inkscape, and did a 2-color trace to get the outline. Jeff Dahl (Talkcontribs) 18:29, 2 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm glad you did, each image gets better and better! Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 18:54, 2 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Wow, it just hit me, you used both the regular and the Kufic script on this one, you are an image god! Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 03:07, 3 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
It's not actually too hard. If you haven't yet, try Inkscape. It is actually remarkably easy to use and it's free! Jeff Dahl (Talkcontribs) 03:54, 3 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think that will have to wait for me to wrap my brain around, until I get working in Japan in 68 days. :) Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 04:51, 3 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
That is beautiful and I love your choice of colors! Two changes before I can switch over. 1) could you make the "teeth" on the central device (strawberry? acorn?) sharp like on the coat-of-arms? 2) can you remove the banding on the stem, it is not in the original. Thank you so much! Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 05:06, 3 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Beautiful, thank you so much! Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 02:21, 4 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
This one is spot-on, thank you! Let me ask you, since you got a look at the article itself, should I make _that_ the main image, and use the busier emblem as the alternate?
The thought had crossed my mind; sounds good to me. Jeff Dahl (Talkcontribs) 03:55, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Done, take a look. It flows better, to me. (and the purple background was just what was needed!) Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 04:11, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Also I hope I didn't crowd you, putting you up for the Scouting barnstar. You really earned it! Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 03:42, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

File:Burma GG badge.svg Request: combine elements into color version, work your magic! :) white inner section around peacock, royal blue 4169E1 outer rim of trefoil. This is a 39 year extinct, banned organization, copyright is not an issue anymore, please make this an SVG like the Boy Scout version from the same period, above. Thank you so much! -- Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 04:22, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Uploaded new version. I'll let you decide on the license etc. Jeff Dahl (Talkcontribs) 00:31, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Jeff, this is absolutely beautiful! A couple of things,

  • would you make the legs less obvious, you could even make the bird sitting, but in the original you can't really see them at all. (maybe have the bottom feathers touch the bottom blue border, then truncate the feet; this would also make the bird slightly larger within the emblem)
  • would you make the text white on the blue background, for contrast?
  • can you try a version without the black bordering? I don't think it needs it and would like to see if it can do without the black separations.

Thank you so much! Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 00:36, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Text is white now, I've switched to a thinner black border because removing it conflicts with the scroll at the bottom. How's this? Jeff Dahl (Talkcontribs) 00:49, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Much better, let me ask you one more thing as a test, and if it is not possible I totally understand. I am sure the original did not have the black divisions, but I understand your concerns about the scroll. Could you reverse the scroll, so it is white, bordered in blue, with blue text? That would be preferable to any black bordering whatsoever. Thank you so much! Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 00:53, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I tried a version with a white scroll, but it looks really weird. Do you have access to a better original? Jeff Dahl (Talkcontribs) 01:09, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, it's taken me 14 years just to find that one, I am sorry. Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 05:53, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

(also, could you boost the size of the peacock within the emblem about 25%? On the original it seems to fill more of the white space, and the indents for the leaves are covered more deeply) Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 08:34, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

You're doing a great job on this, by the way, I am sorry to be sort of particular, there's kind of an unspoken set of rules on such emblems, as they are meant to be embroidered, which means no outlining thus. Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 01:15, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Also, on the second Burmese character, the pocket is hollow, not solid, think of it like musical notes. Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 01:17, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
New version uploaded; better? Jeff Dahl (Talkcontribs) 04:41, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Far and away better, thank you so much for your patience on this one. Two very minor things, one important, one cosmetic. 1) where the top feathers touch the emblem, could you please have the bird be the foreground and the blue border bits under, instead of the blue parts overlain on the peacock (I don't think it is meant to be a frame in that sense); 2) now that the scroll is reversed, could you use a slightly thicker pixel for the blue outlining? Like if that is one dot, could it perhaps be three? It would not be overbearing, but would show well when scaled. You rock, by the way! Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 04:51, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
No problem; actually having a 3px border makes the scroll look much better. Bird is now in front. Jeff Dahl (Talkcontribs) 05:27, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Perfect, just right, one more for the Jeff-Dahl-is-a-rock-god Hall of Fame! Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 05:37, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
