Riley(?) edit

I am writing this in good spirit to inform you that you have made an incorrect and poorly sourced claim.

Recently, you added to the page of Terence Tao that his son's name is Riley (and not William, as it previously stood). I have undone this edit because the source you provided never claimed that Riley Tao is the son of Terence. The Sydney Morning Herald, however, explicitly claimed that Terence's son is called William. Additionally, in this interview of Tao, he mentions his son William: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fYpkKGrlWg&t=906s ("[...] me and my son, William, [...]"). No, his son Riley came out as non-binary (and changed the name from William): The New York Times article mentions Riley Tao's soundcloud of their coming out. I added both NYTimes and the Soundcloud link now to make the citation clearer.
Additionally the harvard-westlake chronicle confirms this change: William Tao '21 is listed in this hwchronicle article: https://hwchronicle.com/61206/news/science-bowl-team-places-fourth/, but the Class of 2021 published in hwchronicle lists them as Riley Tao '21: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:Vqf-41blYGAJ:https://issuu.com/hwchronicle/docs/may_2021_issue-1-33-merged&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us Jamesmcmillan23 (talk) 21:48, 8 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
The article never claimed that Riley is the son of Terence (Terry) Tao. Ramanujaner (talk) 21:54, 8 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
No, but the soundcloud podcast does. Jamesmcmillan23 (talk) 21:56, 8 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Are you talking about the sound clip in which he calles mother? (I'm a bit unsure if I heared the right clip) Because the name Terence/Terry wasn't mentioned even once. And again: both Terence Tao himself (as mentioned above) and The Sydney Morning Herald claims that his name is William. I am beginning to doubt your seriousness in this discussion. This hwchronicle references that UCLA professor Terry Tao has his son William '21 attend the school:

The name change is presented in the print edition of May 2021 edition of the harvard-westlake chronicle: https://issuu.com/hwchronicle/docs/may_2021_issue-1-33-merged
I'm sorry, I thought that the original reference would be sufficient to remove the deadnaming. Jamesmcmillan23 (talk) 22:57, 8 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
I do not have access to that second source, and it seems a bit unreliable. But if I understand you and your source right, William changed name to Riley. Is that correct? Ramanujaner (talk) 23:28, 8 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes, that is correct. The HW Chronicle has been used as a source elsewhere on wikipedia and has won national awards Jamesmcmillan23 (talk) 10:44, 9 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia articles should refer to people with respect to their current name and pronouns. Mentioning Riley's deadname (ie, what they went with before Riley) is unneeded and potentially harmful. I have changed the wording accordingly. 199.7.157.62 (talk) 06:02, 23 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
