License tagging for Image:Ashes in the brittle air.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Ashes in the brittle air.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

Just Wondering

hello j millburn just wondering if you are from Cumbria how do you know about the Horton hospital Banbury?

I have a habit of going through the new articles. I know nothing about the hospital, I was just Wikifying the article a little I suspect. What edit did I make? J Milburn 16:28, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I just had a check, I added the medicine-stub tag, and corrected some grammar. I didn't actually add anything to the article. I usually don't read much of the article when I open it, I just skim over and make it look nice, add needed tags and nominate for deletion if need be. How do you set a category - some editors wanted to delete the article - do you know why - > I think becasue no references which I have now provided I hope.

Reference Citing

Greetings, J. Milburn! I just noticed that you had gone back and added a notification that I had not referenced sources on the Ativin - Pills Versus Planes EP article. Since I am new to Wikipedia, I'm just wondering if I need to reference such information as the track listing and release date, or if you are referring to my brief synopsis of the album, noting its different stylistic tone from the others. I certainly would like to make my contributions as helpful as possible and not add anything unnecessary or incomplete.

Please don't clean up attack pages

Such as James_Towell. While the assumption of good faith is nice; that was an obviously unacceptable article, and should simply have been tagged for CSD, and deleted (as I've just done). Please be more careful in the future. JesseW, the juggling janitor 23:49, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Fair use image in your sandbox

With regards to this edit: Please do not remove the orphaned fair use tag if the image is not being used in any articles (pages in the User: namespace do not count as articles). I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

Disambig pages and D&D.

Since your contributions seem to be doing a fair amount of this... hmm, how to say this. On one hand, doing work to organize redirects is certainly a laudable goal. However, redirects should go to the most likely usage. People who enter in sabretooth tiger and its variants, for instance, are almost certainly interested in the real sabretooth tiger (that is, the smilodon). Similarly, I don't see how D&D dire animals merits a reference on the Sabretooth disambig page. If we were to apply that low a standard for disambig pages... well, there are lots and lots of games that have sabretooth tigers as random monsters in them as well. Then start thinking of all the fictional references. My understanding of Wikipedia policy is that only reasonably major connections should go on a disambig page.

I've Encyclopedia Britannica, and there short articles are unreferenced. Don't you think it's excessive to ruin the format of such a short article with such an excessive request? Bye! --Attilios 21:13, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

I can see what you mean, but I think that, with it being such a short article, it should be very easy to source it anyway. People should always provide sources when writing the article, in my opinion. J Milburn 21:15, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Referencing other Wikipedias

Hi J Milburn, I happened to see that you mentioned to another user that other Wikipedias are not valid sources for the English Wikipedia. I'd love to hear more as this rule seems to be diametrically opposed to other Wikipedias' rules (for example the German Wikipedia). Is there something I could read up to find out when it is and when it is not allowed to source another Wikipedia? BTW, how about articles that are just plainly drawing from other Wikipedia articles? Wouldn't it rather violate the GNU license not to mention that such articles are actually using other people's work? Curious to find out more. --Ibn Battuta 00:07, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi, you recently tagged a large number of images I uploaded. However, I am interested to know why you tagged some of them with 'no source' and 'no rationale', yet deleted others straight away. The reason I deleted those other images was that they had been listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2006 November 29/Images (I assumed you had been notified of this, but this was apparently not the case). As explained here, we do not have a solid fair use claim to images from the Wizards of the Coast book art galleries, as our use competes with the copyright holder's use. The reason I tagged the figurine images with the no source and no rationale tags instead of deleting them as well is that I believe we may be able to legitimately claim fair use for them; once sources are provided, I intend to get opinions from people knowledgeable about copyright law on whether this would be the case. --Robth^Talk 14:25, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Re: List of Avatar: The Last Airbender Book One episodes

Okay, here's the deal. That page is NOT a Featured List. List of Avatar: The Last Airbender episodes is a featured list, one that was chosen as such several weeks ago after myself and several other members of the WikiProject Avatar: The Last Airbender went through a lot of work following its nomination. The page's creator randomly decided the original list was too long, (load of crap), and cut out practically all of its content before shoving it in the three new pages (originally the page's sections). That's why I feel all three pages he created (the other two can be seen here[1][2]-note the information all comes from the list of ATLA eps) should be deleted immediately. Edit conflict

Seems that when you were editing my article on Curley's Atlas Hotel and Baths, you put some stub entry in which wiped out some additions I was making at the same time. Anyway, it's back in now, and I would say no longer a stub.

Tale of Two Brothers

Regarding copywrite on the tale, no it is not copywrited as it is something that was re-edited by me from assembly from four late Victorian sources. Basically I went through to delete all of the thee's and thou's, and change the "Behold!" to "Look" and update the language, without changing any of the original sense of the sessions (not wanting to run foul of the Wiki no personal research view). Is this OK?
