For some reason, the previous reference to President Clinton's authorization of the use of military force at Waco has been deleted. This seems to be a real problem for those seeking to put all the blame on either Janet Reno or on the law enforcement experts who planned the raid. By simply surrounding the compound with David Koresh inside, ATF pretty much guaranteed that there would be a long, drawn out siege showing every night on the news. This "mistake" was never explained to the public. But it did contribute greatly to the debate over the assault weapons ban that kicked off the Clinton Administration's legislative agenda. This mistake was noted by the Texas newspapers at the time, but not the national level. JPReturns (talk)
